I decided to not take his service. He couldn't be reached, and when I could reach him half of what he said was unintelligible. Didn't get back to me with a quote. Even though a recommendation of a long standing dealership sales person, I decided, that, after this bad start, not to pursue this.

I'm going to Mr. Mb for my next repair. I called him once, and, in addition to what I read here on this thread and elsewhere, I have a very good feeling about him and his shop.

I've been taking my benz to White Oak Mercedes for years. Larry is, one of the owners, working on my car at a reasonable price. Great job

To the poster that had a problem at Mr MB Motors:

It sounds more like a misunderstanding between you two than anything of malice. I probably visit his shop more often than most and misunderstandings do happen, but nothing was ever out of line.

I have gotten big repair bills that I didn't expect, but it was for work that the car needed anyway and would have authorized in a heart beat. If he is taking something apart and sees other things damaged or worn, it would be crazy not to replace those parts right away (it saves on labor in the long run).

It sounds like Enrique did more than just an oil change for you and charged accordingly. I believe you that he didn't make all that clear to you, but its OK to talk to him about it. He will be glad to tell you that your car was checked out thoroughly and this and that done to it. Its not like he is charging you for stuff he never did. That is just not him. There is also that possibility that he made a human error--that's why its better to just ask him about it.

I always type things up that I want done to my car and hand it to him to minimize misunderstandings. Approach every mechanic that way.

I think that it is worth mentioning that the poster who had the alleged problem has posted a total of 12 posts to this forum in the past 18 months of membership. Out of those 12 posts here are the statistics:

2: suggesting that someone is an idiot
2: four word or less posts with no real content
7: Posts complaining about his service victimization from MB Motors
1: query to trade some parts

12 total.

I had a nice chat with Enrique today when I picked up my car. It was my first time I left my car with Enrique. I heard the other side of the poster's issue. I won't post it here, but I will say that I consider the poster with problem to be the problem.

Having said that, I had gone to A-German Motors on Foothill for service of my 85 wagon. Victor adjusted the valves, fixed a vacuum thing, changed the oil and fuel filters. The bill was reasonable.

I asked about the AC and Victor told me that my compressor was frozen and that it would be about $1500 to get my AC working.

I asked about my front suspension and was told that it was all shot and that it would be about $1800 to get that all fixed using non-MB parts.

Then I went to see Enrique.

Enrique informed me that my compressor was unplugged. He recharged the system with R134, replaced a vacuum control behind the push buttons, and replaced the fan in front of the radiator. The AC work was $240 labor and $430 parts.

Enrique informed me that my lower ball joints where shot and that the rest of my suspension looked pretty good. The suspension work was $320 labor and $80 parts for the lower ball joints.

Enrique also replaced the belts for $80 labor, $56 parts.

Enrique also fixed my backup lights so they work, fixed my tach so it worked, both no-charge items.

My total bill was $1261.19

It was well worth the 2+ hour Metro commute from Tarzana to Altadena to leave my car with Enrique.

Pre-Purchase Inspections

Just spoke to Enrique who said he does them for $80 dollars. Going there tomorrow after I look at an SEC.

Enrique is the best. I took one of my MZ's to him for an inspection after purchase, he wouldn't take my money for the inspection which took him about 10-15 minutes, throwing it up on the rack and talking me through a few points of interest.

Top notch, honest. Those are words I would use to describe Enrique.

Just took my car to Jeff at DIY Bio Fuels in the Valley...WOAH, my car is like a whole new beast, it's night and day. Totally reasonable price and it feels like I've got a new car, shocked at the difference in how it runs, much more power and speed. Just wanted to recommend him to anyone with an old car that's running on either diesel or VO:

NonStop Auto, Stanley Norwood, Van Nuys. Non Stop Auto - Van Nuys - Van Nuys, CA
Knows his business, honest, and won't break the bank.

A non regular customer who was visiting from Las Vegas had his a/c expire during last years heat wave.
Stanley put in a new compressor, dryer, and replaced some o rings, at a very reasonable price.
I happened to be in the office, and overheard him say to the customer; "When I evacuated your system, you still had 2 1/2 pounds of freon in it. I put it back in and charged only for what was added."
In 20 or so years in the tool business, and dealing with mechanics, automotive, and body shops, I had never heard anyone say that.
Usually, shops will charge for the system volume.
