I'd also like to know if someone had a suggested repair shop in Charleston. I did a google search but can't find anything.

I'll second that, I'm actually moving to Columbia for school so if anyone knows a good paint shop please let me know. A local place in Lafayette, Indiana messed my paint up pretty terribly and I need it fixed!

I had called a mechanic in Charleston today to try to arrange a pre-sales inspection. It turned out they are closed next week, but before we got off the phone, they did recommend this shop - http://starmotor.com/

They specialize in Volvo & Mercedes. The website is very interesting. Apparently it's two brothers from Germany who service and restore cars. I haven't talked to them yet, but it looks like what I'm looking for. I will let you know if I end up going there. If anyone else tries them, please post your opinion.

German Auto on Rivers and Star in West Ashley are the only two in the area that will even have a clue. Both of the owners are from Germany.

I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.

I let Brown Motor Works (who started with BMWs but now do MBs, too) do all my routine stuff, and they're very good for that, having done fine work and saved me a great deal of money.

For any major repair, milestone, or pre-purchase inpsection, however, I make the drive all the way from Columbia down to Bluffton (just before HHI, if the name isn't familiar) to see a fine German fellow named Frieder Kemmann at his shop Import Service of the Lowcountry.

He worked for M-B in Germany before he had his own shop in Chicago, and naturally has now set up shop in warmer surroundings. He always has newer, higher-end AMGs in and out of the shop (which I take as a vote of confidence from discerning owners who are likely able to pay dealership prices anyway), and he's one of the few Mercedes mechanics known for knowing his way around G-wagens (even my Europa-imported 1999 model). People from as far as Spartanburg make a trip of it to let Frieder take care of their G-Klasse.

Europa Geländewagen - takes "unlike any other" to another level.

Try European Road & Racing. That shop is owned by Karl and Martin Troy and work on all European-made cars (exotics too) Great work and always honest. I've taking my C-230 there since the day I bought it.
