Gerber body shop had good customer service, timely and good repair. Price with promotion was reasonable.

This is where I take our e320 bluetec to get all of its non warranty service done.
They are very honest, and do great work.
They were recommended to me by a close friend. I found them to be through, knowledgable and fair with their prices. I will be a returning customer.

tofo I've heard gearheads in glen ellyn is good. Performancewerks in Naperville is the shop I've heard the most good things about. Both would pretty much be a straight drive on 59 from you, about 45 minutes at the most to naperville.

w126Sam - thanks so much. Either one should be great for me as I live just off 59.

Any personal history with either? Would you lean your recommendation one way or the other?

It's my first proper Benz (2004.5 c230K) and I want to take real good care of her!

It's probably twice the drive for you, but P-werks is what I'd lean towards for my car. It might not be worth the drive unless you've got a big job to be done though. I've had a couple of friends with beemers use them, and they speak very highly of the two gentlemen that run the shop. Apparently they're the "old school" type guys that everyone respects. They'll take the time to explain exactly what they have to do, and they really know their stuff.

Just throwing my 2 cents in for Wizard Werks in the city of Chicago (1210 W Lake St - (312) 291-9449). Karim (owner) has done wonders on my 2002 silver W208. It has seen some botched work by another "European car mechanic," some unique wiring/motor troubleshooting that stumped the dealership service department and even sorted out a botched insurance repair, recently.

Very professional, knows German cars in and out - gives you the real deal on the what you need to do and what can wait - not the sales person/dealership pitch. It's a good sized shop and he even frequents the MB forums like this one, offering fix-it advice/repairs for particularly troublesome issues and DIYer's. While I wish his shop had a smaller part of my pocketbook, his reviews speak for themselves:

I have actually heard of that happening a few times with the backup cam. Weird that they'd do that. As I've stated earlier in the thread, I've heard nothing but good about Performancewerks in Naperville, and they've got 40 reviews confirming that on google. I heard of them from a close friend with a BMW 7 series that uses them. Mike and Blake are the names of the guys that run the shop IIRC. They're supposed to be very personable and even more knowledgeable. If you're just trying to get the backup cam replaced though, I might go to MB of Naperville. They're the only dealership I'll ever work with. Again, check out the google reviews.
