A while back I had my timing chain, guides and tensioner replaced. I called Larry's and European Autowerkz. I told them that I wanted to bring my own parts and asked for a very rough quote.
EA gave me a much higher number than Larrys. Peering in I was able to see that their shop was very clean. I like that. They told me that the chain job would include a close look at the valve train and gave me a scary number for cam / valve wear repairs. Many on this forum suggested that was overkill as the car only has 106,000 miles, burns its fuel clean and runs fantastic.
Larrys gave me a reasonable quote and I ended up taking the car there. An hour after I dropped the car off, they called. I saw the number flash up and my sphincter tightened to about 90 ft./lbs. It was the mech. He told me that my engine was clean as a whistle, my chain had minimal stretch and the guides looked ok. And, did he want me to have him just button it back up and then come back in 20,000 miles. You read that right. I ended up having the work done, simply due to the cars age, resale value and peace of mind when I turn the key.
In the future, I'd take my car to either one. But I was very pleased with Larrys.
