Have used both Don Pool in Falls Church and WB Motors in Fairfax City. While I cannot say they are the cheapest places in town, they do quality work and stand by their jobs.

Had Don Pool do my timing chain and subframe bushings on my 560sl, plus some odds and ends, without a problem. From what I've seen, they specialize in older Benzes, especially Pagodas and some the of '60's vintage cars.

WB Motors did my pre-purchase inspection and replaced my starter motor, oil pressure sending unit, and other routine items on the 560sl. Have gone over my son's w201 turbo diesel, cleaning the tank, clearing the fuel lines, replacing flex discs, and other odds and ends. Seem to have a good network to refer you to for jobs they cannot do--such as when my son skidded the w201 sideways into a curb and messed up some of the suspension.

I like them both--WB is closer to my home, so I tend to go there more often.
They got good Washington Checkbook ratings for quality of service. Think Don Pool did also.

I highly recommend European Service Automotive/fairfaxmotors in fairfax city.
They are knowledgeble and very reasonable. Professional and couteous.
I've recently got the Automatic transmission Conductor plate replaced for a total of $655.
Parts : Condcutor Plate + 4 Liters AT fluid + gasket + filter
Labour : 3.5 hrs.

Had very bad experiences with the following Independent's in Ashburn.

Does anyone know a good body shop? When I bought my car back in Oct I did not noticed that the underside of my front bumper had numerous scratches as well as rip. I assume from the previous owner parking on a curb with perhaps a piece of metal extending from it. I would like to get that fix but would prefer not to have a buy a new bumper, have it painted and installed.

Thanks
Pete

VA -- northern VA body shop

Who can recommend a good body shop in northern Virginia, please? Specifically, I just bought a 1999 E300 TD. The body is in good shape except for the beginnings of some corrosion around the wheel wells that I would like to get quoted to have it scraped down, repainted and repaired.

Much thanks.

Update: my parents' neighborhood is a chief mechanic in the area and recommended D&V auto body in Northern Virginia. I will take it in for a quote within the next week or so and provide an update then. Thanks.

Not quite in NOVA, but I have had very good luck with
Hanagan's Auto Body
933 Selim Rd
Silver Spring, MD
301-589-2260

You also may want to take a look at the listings on Washington Consumer Checkbook's Automobiles--Body Repair Shops in Washington , DC (subscription required, but might be worth it).

Northern, VA body shop

All,
I had decent luck with Craftsman Autobody in Chantilly.

14150 Willard Road
Chantilly, VA 20151-2933
(703) 631-2151

Had to go back once becuase the job wasn't 100% when I showed up the first time but they took care of it quickly and without any hassle. Had the front bumber repaired where it had a chip in it and some other minor paint work. They hadn't bolted the bumper back on correctly but fixed it the 2nd time.

Sooo, too bad for me, i pulled to closely to a curb (front-in parking) and when I backed out I pulled the bumper lose again. Whats the luck...

I would like to go to a "MB only" shop this time if anybody knows of one.

Ask for Chris Spencer. He's done work on ML and he did a great job. Also they repainted a car for my father (who is SUPER anal) and he was very happy.

Anyone have a recommendation for a shop in Fairfax or Prince William Counties to perform service? I'm done overpaying the dealership...
