MB specialist in Lower Bucks County, PA

I'm happy to add my endorsement to the other BenzWorld subscribers who were impressed with Steve Nemeth's skills as an MB specialist. He is definetly an "old school", (but not old) tech who analizes a mechanical or electronic problem then isolates the cause and then repairs it. Auto service done by mileage interval and "removing and replacing" parts to satisfy the Service Manager is not done at Steve's shop.
For example; A tranny problem in my '99 E320 with 125,000 miles was resolved by removing the transmission and replacing a control module (TCM). A bushing in the tranny shift lever was also replaced. Problem solved. A dealership would have the transmission rebuilt rather than waste time looking for the problem. Lesee, a $500 tranny repair vs $3-$5000 replacement @ 50% margin (estimated)?

I think you know why dealer's are avoided once the warranty period is over.

Here's another example; A nasty, rough idle at starting in cold weather that was diagnosed by a different Indie "MB specialist" as a worn tranny mount. That wasn't the solution. Steve's MB "A" service on my car revealed that the lower motor mounts had failed, the engine was literally resting on the frame without the cushioning provided by functioning engine mounts. The rough idle problem was resolved. How could an "MB Specialist" miss something so obvious to a competent MB tech.

My suggestion; Let Steve Nemeth do an "A' service on your MB. Let him prioritize the repairs you may need and then you can proceed with the service needed based on your schedule and your budget.

I'm a gearhead like most of you. I was wrenching on home built "hot rods" in the late 50's then "AA" Fuelies in the late 60's and 70's. My last project car was restoring a 1964 Pontiac GTO "Goat" with a blueprinted and balanced 389 c.i. (6.4 L). As my business prospered I could afford my first Mercedes. My present car is the fourth MB "E" class I've owned and with Steve Namaths gifted hands, it will be the last car I'll own.

Just a great honest Euro repair shop in Philadelphia. Near Fox Chase. Wont have any regrets here. No worries about correct fluids, or torque specs which I ponder with every time I bring my car to an unfamiliar shop.

I have to add my recommendation to C.S.Cantlin in Conshohocken. Charlie, the owner, takes the time to explain everything that has to be done so that you can understand it. You can trust that you will not get ripped off and that only the work that needs to be done will get done. All the work that I have had done there has been excellent and he has saved me many dollars compared to the dealer misdiagnoses.

CS Cantlin in West Conshy

Another round of kudos to CS Cantlin. Worked wonders on my wife's '03 CLK320 fixing 97,500 miles of miscellaneous issues. When I came to pick it up, Charlie (the owner) was personally washing the car. Car is like new again.

Also did a pre-purchase inspection of my '03 SL55 and saved me some not insignificant $$. Somehow convinced MB of Cherry Hill to drive it up to him. I guess not surprising as the hot saleslady got a chance to drive a hot car for an hour.

Prices (labor and parts) certainly beat a dealer and competitive with local non-MB shops (like the ones that work on my Expedition, at least on labor). One Sunday when I went to drop off the SL in advance of a blizzard, Charlie came and opened up the shop so I could put the car inside and out of the way of the weather.

And that's my $.02

For those in the south/west of Philly area, there is a GREAT independent shop in Wilmington DE. The owner is Ezio, of Ezio's Car Care - Ezio's Car Care Center, Wilmington DE | Car Talk - Mechanics Files

I've known Ezio for over 40 years, as he was the top mechanic at the Wilmington MB dealer in the '70's. Has had his own independent shop for over 30 years. He ONLY services MB, Ferrari and Rolls. His shop is dingy, and you would not take your car there unless you had a good reference! But, Ezio knows every model of MB, and provides great service. He DOES NOT just throw parts at the car, but will provide the owner with information about repair or replace options. Since I've known him for so long, he'll always provide me with suggestions on how to do my own repair/service if I want and ask.. He emigrated to the US from Italy in the '60's, when he was probably in his late 20's or 30's, so has a strong Italian accent.

VERY honest shop. This shop does ALL the service on my MB's that I don't know how to do, or don't choose to do.

'03 MB SL55 AMG
'90 MB 560 SEC
'07 Audi A8
'74 BMW 3.0 CSi
'94 Porsche 928 GTS - just departed

Another thumbs-up from me for C.S. Cantlin. Had an issue last Saturday where the car would not start after driving for a while. Turned out to be a faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor (diagnosed by someone else). We got in touch with Charlie, who was not in the office. He told me to get the car to his shop as soon as I could that morning while he called his folks at the shop for the part to be ordered. They gave me a loaner at noon on Saturday, Charlie came in Sunday night, repaired the car, and had it ready for me to pickup at 8 a.m. on Monday. Hard to get service anywhere like that. I have been to C.S. Cantlin four times for work and would not consider going anywhere else. AAA+++

Need a shop that can do a PPI for me in the Feasterville-Trevose, PA area. believe its to the North NE of Philadlephia. I am in South Carolina so I'm doing this long distance. The company selling the car won't take it too far from their location due to time and employee expense involved -- I know... Anyway looking for a reliable shop in that area.

Thank you and kind regards,

Another shout-out to
Universal Auto Repair
447 Rhawn St.
Philadephia, pa 19111

Located near Fox Chase in Philadelphia Northeast.
Family-owned. Needed a PPI on a Saturday morning (not local) and proprietor was extremely helpful. Do not live nearby but proprietor seemed familiar and friendly with other customers and would certainly give the shop a try for my business.
