For those of you in Bucks County, visit with Mr Steve Nemeth at ASKA (+267 246 8762). Mr Nemeth is an experienced MB mechanic, very good customer service
I'm happy to add my endorsement to the other BenzWorld subscribers who were impressed with Steve Nemeth's skills as an MB specialist. He is definetly an "old school", (but not old) tech who analizes a mechanical or electronic problem then isolates the cause and then repairs it. Auto service done by mileage interval and "removing and replacing" parts to satisfy the Service Manager is not done at Steve's shop.
For example; A tranny problem in my '99 E320 with 125,000 miles was resolved by removing the transmission and replacing a control module (TCM). A bushing in the tranny shift lever was also replaced. Problem solved. A dealership would have the transmission rebuilt rather than waste time looking for the problem. Lesee, a $500 tranny repair vs $3-$5000 replacement @ 50% margin (estimated)?
I think you know why dealer's are avoided once the warranty period is over.
Here's another example; A nasty, rough idle at starting in cold weather that was diagnosed by a different Indie "MB specialist" as a worn tranny mount. That wasn't the solution. Steve's MB "A" service on my car revealed that the lower motor mounts had failed, the engine was literally resting on the frame without the cushioning provided by functioning engine mounts. The rough idle problem was resolved. How could an "MB Specialist" miss something so obvious to a competent MB tech.
My suggestion; Let Steve Nemeth do an "A' service on your MB. Let him prioritize the repairs you may need and then you can proceed with the service needed based on your schedule and your budget.
I'm a gearhead like most of you. I was wrenching on home built "hot rods" in the late 50's then "AA" Fuelies in the late 60's and 70's. My last project car was restoring a 1964 Pontiac GTO "Goat" with a blueprinted and balanced 389 c.i. (6.4 L). As my business prospered I could afford my first Mercedes. My present car is the fourth MB "E" class I've owned and with Steve Namaths gifted hands, it will be the last car I'll own.
