Where are we on getting a better search engine?

I've been struggling with the search engine ever since I joined this forum which, although I have only been a member for a few months, has caused me much frustration. Today, for instance, I searched on the word "outside" (without the quotation marks) and was told that there were no matches. I know there are; I've seen a few.

But I'd really like to bring up the AND and OR function again. I see threads older than a year addressing this same item. When I put a list of words, the use of OR by default (that's what our search engine does) doesn't give us any more satisfaction than doing separate searches on each word. Using AND by default makes sense because it allows me to do something more useful like searching for "coolant temperature sensor". If I used that phrase now I'd get all the threads that contain each word individually. Some may contain more than one of the three words. Can we do something about this. Also, all of the words should be in the same post.

Take a look at mercedesforum.com. Their search engine allows OR, AND, and NOT to create some boolean expressions. If they also had parentheses the expressions could get quite complex. BTW, I've never actually used their search engine because I'm not a member of their forum. I think mercedesforum.com is inferior to the Benzworld forum. I only looked at their search engine to see if they handled these functions.

Can you give us an update on these features? I would be soooo grateful to see them imlemented. It would make finding things much easier for all of us.

I'm replying to my own post because I must have been crazy. Please disregard anything I said concerning AND and OR. It works just fine. I'm still a newbie.

I am concerned about being unable to find the word "outside". Perhaps there are other words that the search engine cannot find. I'm searching the W124 forum using the words "ambient temp" and I get 40 threads including some that use the word "outside". Searching for "outside temp" gives the maximum 500 threads all of which contain the word "temp" but few, if any, contain the word "outside". Again searching on "outside" gives zero results as if the word was ignored. Can someone explain this to me?
