time chain

Hi there,

Im in the uk and have a 2001 FourTwo smart. My timing chain has recently snapped, and has damaged the engine. The quote for a new engine exceeds the value of the car (3100)

I've heard that this part might be under a manufacturers warranty.......(i.e. it shouldnt break)........does anybody know if this is the case??
