Ignition control module

afternoon guys.

I have an 89 W126 500SEL and I am looking for an ignition control module. The part numbers are 227400706 or 0075450732.

Or can anyone tell me if there is a cheaper alternative?

Many thanks
Paul

It looks like that that part only applies to the euro / standard 5.0 motors on the w126 and 500GE.

I can't understand why other euro 5.0 m117 wouldn't use the same unit. I simply don't know enough about these cars yet.

And why would the 380se euro have a different one? I don't know.

Welcome.
Please complete your profile with car mod and location. Daimler Benz made different versions for same model cars for different parts of the world.
So to get the correct advice, location is important.

True, but in this scenario, I'm not sure it matters. The only 1989 500SEL is a Standard/European model. Correct? And he states the part number he is seeking.

From automobile-catalog.com:

Ha, I didn't even look at the year, but it was obviously meant for future posts.
New members usually are in a hurry to solve issues, but forget that a complete profile generates more responses / makes it easier to respond.
Its a bit counterproductive to expect members to go back to post 1 in a newbie's thread to search for the year and mod, just to be able to reply correctly.

Btw, I have been up and close with about a handful of GenII 500/560 SEL/SEC around the L.A. area (incl a ex Pete Rose SEC), and not all of them had the same compression engine. TRY-Y headers seemed to be the norm on the 500, but surprisingly not on the 560.
On the other hand, there are quite a few U.S. spec W126 V8's in Germany / Europe.

I am keeping for future use a complete M117 GenI Euro (stamped) 10:1 compression engine, with tranny, drive shaft, differential etc.
I have been told that even for Gen I Euro the 10:1 is uncommon.
The pistons have 2 round indentations instead of the single oblong under the valves.

Paul Mason, you might want to check with member bondavi aka David. He owned and used to work on Gen II Euro's and might be able to point you into the right direction.
If you google Mercedes + parts # you might catch the forum threads of members with GenII Euro 500/560, usually looking for the same part.
I would recommend to also post in W126 FS/WTB section under something like 'WTB Gen II Euro ignition control, year and mod of car + parts numbers in the post.

@Teutone I wonder why the ICU number provided above is only applicable to the euro/standard 500 w126 and 500ge.

I think what the op is asking for is a good question. Is there any alternative? Would an ICU from maybe a euro 500 r107 or maybe a 5.6, or a euro 380 or something like that work? What's so special about this ICU?

Edit: and if the one in my 500se fails, I will be in the exact same boat. It would be good information for any euro 500 w126 owner.

We had about half a dozen on the forum. Bondavi and cascade won at auction in L.A. a Euro GenII 500SEC, Chadahar wound up with it.
Prior to that bondavi bought a CA legal Euro GenII 560SEC with the AMG TV dashboard (antenna embedded in rear window frame). The car went to member ancho, then to another forum member in FLA (with a wheel shop)? I believe almost all wound up having to source and buy the costly Euro ICU.
I seem to recall the M119 500 part was tried, but didn't work 100%. cascade (RIP),trooper6 and mclare, who build 300hp 560SEC AMG clones might have info. I don't know which ICU's they finally wound up using.
I have a friend here with a mint late mod R107 Euro 500SL with TRY-Y's, but didn't look too closely at the ICU?
There are few of those in CA.

When bondavi aka David got the GenII Euro 560SEC, read the first sentence http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126...1990-euro.html

Re ICU: If i remember correctly, some of the aforementioned members sourced the part via UK and down under members.
UK located moderator ianrandom might know?

Ignition control module

I have the following cars that could provide parts to test: Edit: I mean, I could try using ICUs from the following cars that I have access to:
1985 500se euro
1983 380se euro
1989 300se (most likely not applicable since 6 cyl)
1981 380slc US model
1978 450slc 5.0 euro
A bunch of 450sl/c US model
1992 500sl US model
A few euro m110 that are most likely not applicable
1986 560sl US model not running
1988 560sl US model not running

There are others but surely not applicable.

If any of the above seem like they'd make sense to try in say maybe my 1985 500se euro, I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Fonzi, pre-1986 and 1986+ 500 M117's are different and the ignition control units are totally different.

The 1986+ 500's are similar to the US 560's. Gen I and Gen II W126's are different.

1980 Mercedes 280TE AMG
1989 Mercedes 560SEC
1990 Mercedes 560SEL with AMG parts modifications
1991 Mercedes 190E AMG with Brabus 4-cyl M102 2.6
