Price lowered to $5500
I purchased this SL from a wholesaler and got a great price on a low mileage Sport package car. The main reason was the dead soft top. Typical for these cars, all of the hydraulics need to be sent of to rebuilt. It also had some minor cosmetics to deal with.
I got the car and sent it up to my trusty mechanic who has done several soft top rebuilds for me. Also did a front brake job and a bit of suspension maintenance. Now the car is mechanically 100%, needs nothing to be driven across the country right now.
Next was to send it off to my paint and body man for some cleanup, but that hasn't happened. He is way behind and has already had my 1985 SL for over a month. This car has been waiting 6 weeks, just sitting in the garage. I'm tired of looking at it, so I'm just going to unload it really cheap and let someone else take it to the finish line.
So it is a real deal sport package car with only 68,000 miles. Mechanically excellent, needs nothing. Great tires.
Here are the cars current cosmetic needs:
Front bumper cracked
Missing hood badge (ordered one on eBay but it hasn't showed up yet)
Rear bumper light fading
Scratch on deck lid
Damage at some point on rear quarter around headlight, was not redone well enough for my taste.
Drivers seat had a square cut out of it in the corner, I have no idea why as the seat only has normal wear otherwise.
Storage box on top of dash will not stay closed.
Soft top is original and shows some wear, but no holes or tears and appears to of had the rear plastic window inserts replaced at some point.
I took photos of the trouble areas, but as you can see the car looks fantastic anyway as is. The car does not have a hard top. I have sourced them all over the country for cheap ($200-$400) could get a matching black top in great shape for $200 if I had time to drive to St. Louis, but the other issue with me is time. My new business is taking off and needs all of my attention. Another reason for me to unload this for a loss.
If $6500 isn't cheap enough with you, then don't buy it. For reference, NADA book says rough trade in value is $8400, clean trade in $11,800, and clean retail $14562. Realistically with the cosmetics properly taken care of, $9000-$10000 would be easy to get. Clean title in had. Can assist with shipping or pick you up at the airport. Thanks for looking.
