1971 Mercedes 250C Coupe 4 Speed
“THE HOLY GRAIL CAR”
This is the car that is sought after by those who love and respect the W 114’s.
While not exactly a barn find this one has been in a dry controlled underground for over 10 yrs and finally my health has mandated it must go.
The 250C is located in Vancouver BC Canada
THE GOOD, THE BAD, NO UGLY
The Good: This is an original complete car!
The interior is original. The headliner is loose and should be replaced and the sunroof is currently non operable.
The paint is original and is a dark claret red (her nickname is Ruby). There are a few ripples but for its age is good.
I was using the car as my business vehicle as it stood out from all the other Mercedes that my competitors drove. This allowed me to write off the repairs and improvements as the cost of doing business. Most, but not all of the work was done at the Mercedes dealer where a friend worked and good scotch was exchanged with the service manager. He used the car as an old school teaching tool for the apprentice mechanics.
Please see attached photo of invoices from the Mercedes dealer in Richmond BC Canada
Work that was done;
Radiator replaced Alternator
Shocks – Bilsteins Tie Rods
Front Brakes Calipers / Rotors Wheel bearings
Steering Dampener Rear brake pads
Clutch Slave-cylinder Bushings
Front windshield and Rear Window both replaced under insurance claim, the glass came from Germany
The Zeniths had been rebuilt and set up beautifully by the dealer and we had one trip through the mountains where we could use the car for what it was built for. The howl of the 2 barrels under full cry was magical. (Especially after I learned that I could shift from third above 70 miles per hour)
I have documentation bills and receipts going back to 1975 and the car has been kept in a dry and warm climate. All of the parts and bits are here. (radio, hub caps, trim work etc)
The car was originally purchased from Park Valley Motors in Kelowna BC (Canada’s California desert) Original Purchase price in 1971 was over $9,000.00
I was mostly through the mechanical upgrades when I drove through a heavily potholed road and the driver’s side upper control arm, holding the shock, snapped and went through the inner fender wall causing havoc and mayhem. This is the side with the battery box, fuse box and where the spring for hood sits.
It is the inner fender wall that connects the fire wall to the front headlight valence on which the fender is mounted. I understand that the part can be ordered from Mercedes for about $ 1100.00.
This accident happened prior to the common use of Plasma Cutters and I believe that the damaged section could be cut out used as a pattern and the replica wielded in.
Please see sample picture of a fender wall that is not from a w114 but illustrates something similar
The 250C fender wall was damaged with less than 5,000 miles after the mechanical work was done and front and back glass was replaced.
The car was driven to its location with every intention of have it repaired so was not properly put away. The fuel system will have to be cleaned and flushed and the Zenith’s will have to be cleaned. (They are not warped.) The engine ran great when it was parked.
It has not been posted anywhere other than here but will be shortly
I am looking for some advice as to the "Buy me today price" prior to posting on Ebay
