Up for sale is my 64 220b. This car runs and drives, it shows age but is in no means a bucket. Perfect to hop into and cruise around town on a friday night, excellent candidate for a full restoration.
Here is what I know about the car, I purchased it in 2014 from an older lady who owned the car for about 5 years. She purchased it up north near Chicago(Palos Hills) from a man who inherited it from his grandfather, the original owner. Allegedly the car was purchased new from a man with the last name of Schinkler, i was told he was an ex Gestapo agent that fled to the US after ww2. When he became to old to drive, the car was parked for 20 years until his grandson got the car back onto the road.
I have a box full of old OEM parts in packaging, original books and lots of paperwork, even the business card for a man at the dealer! I also have paperwork from my local Mercedes repair shop that details thousands of dollars worth of repairs from the last 5 years.
Pros: 39,xxx miles that I believe to be correct(little to no wear on the clutch pedal, was stored for 20+years) Runs and drives smooth, 4 speed manual transmission on the column shifts easily, dash is clean except for one small crack that just appeared
original steering wheel has a few small hairline cracks but no large pieces missing, all gauges work, all the glass is crack free and in good shape, the original black and white hounds tooth plaid seats have been covered by nice seat covers for a long time-the seats are in great shape and the only reason I knew there was a seat cover is because I can see through a tear in the drivers seat seat cover, no larger dents or serious rust, all original chrome is intact and just needs a good polish, decent tires but starting to show minor cracking, good spare tire, clean engine bay, lots of recent maintenance.
Cons: The paint is faded, cracked in some spots. I personally like the worn in look but it could use a good paint job. Minor surface rust on a few doors/door jams, small rust spot under the drivers seat, no cancerous rust everything seems like it would be perfectly fixable, nothing structural. The headliner isn't sagging but it is slightly stained, the brake light switch needs replaced, I have the part but haven't installed it yet-easy to get to but it requires the brakes to be bled, the front passenger brake is sticking and needs rebuilt and bled.
Not trying to hide anything on this great old car, only reason i'm selling is because I want to put the money towards paying off my house. I would recommend trailering her home. Located in Springfield Illinois, and asking $6000 or best offer. I would consider trading for a newer daily driver vehicle. Any offers considered. Please message me for more detailed/specific pictures. Thank you!
