1982 Mercedes-Benz 240D 102K Mile Cherished Survivor - $7500 (Pasadena CA)
1982 Mercedes-Benz 240D 102K Mile Cherished Survivor
This 1982 Mercedes-Benz 240D diesel sedan was ordered new for my mother, who used the vehicle for work, shopping, church, and carrying family in and around Pasadena, California. My mother is always well dressed and made sure her car was well kept, being consistently kept clean, garaged, and serviced by the family mechanic. Sheepskin seat covers were installed on the front seats for comfort and also have preserved the condition of the seats, which remain like new underneath. The very good chrome gleams and the paint is mostly original and retains it's shine and luster; some fenders have been spot-refinished to repair minor parking lot scuffs, the hood has a small dent. The car is virtually rust-free, only some slight surface rust can be found near a hood hinge box.
Mother, now a "little old lady from Pasadena," is no longer driving. We are looking for that right someone who will give this cherished automobile a good home.
Some particulars about this vehicle that has been like a member of the family:
One family owned since new in Pasadena, has always been a "California car."
Never been in a serious accident.
Current odometer reads about 102,500 miles, which some consider as "break-in" miles for the long-lived Mercedes diesel 4-cylinder engine.
Glow plugs in good condition, car fires promptly, both when cold or warmed-up.
The doors close like a vault, demonstrating the legendary, indestructible build-quality of the W123. (It's a shame no new car has doors that close with this level of authority.)
The MB-Tex crθme beige interior in very nice overall condition, only one crack in the dashboard just a few millimeters long, console and wood in very nice condition. Even the carpets still look good!
All the gauges work and the original Becker radio remains in excellent condition and also works.
The original glove box documents include the Owner's Manual, Maintenance Booklet, Warranty, and other original documents.
About $800 in recent maintenance and repair work has been completed, including: valve adjustment, oil change, air and fuel filters, throttle bushing, coolant.
Items that will need attention include: mechanic recommends new engine/trans mounts. Some slip during the 1-2 upshift, a band adjustment may address this. Also, there is a slight knock from the driveline, maybe a new U-joint is needed.
