FS '80 450 SL Conv. - under 40K miles - central PA

Several years ago, my wife decided she wanted a convertible and we finally settled on this beauty. Unfortunately, she doesn't drive it and we'd like to make some room - maybe for a car for me this time - and I'm just not a vintage car guy (no offense intended!)

We're the second owner (though the previous owner had it listed under his company and himself so we show as the third owner) and the car has been kept with meticulous records. 35K and change on the clock with a new soft top, hard top with rolling rack, original except for the radio/head unit as far as I know.

We bought at $25K and I have it listed at $22K. I can probably talk her into $20K. I'll also take recommendations for alternate Merc clubs in which to post - I'd like her to go to a good home.

I am not sure what the fee is for non member classified but the Mercedes Benz Club of America might be a way to go. I am no longer a member but here is the link for guest classifieds:

Of course, hemmings is also a way to go. I am not sure what the traffic is like on cctol.com but I did buy a car using their classifieds a few years ago.

Best of luck with your sale. I wish I was in the market.

Better yet, you might want to touch base with John Olson of the SL Market Letter. They have classifieds, I believe, and it would target your market directly.

Not a great time of year to be selling a convertible, however. Peak of the market is in the spring, and it goes down from there. 1980 might be a tough year as well as there are a few issues, such as the Type II climate control system, that affects their value against other model years.
