Badass 1980 450sl WIDEBODY Koenig Special
I was told by the dealer, that they could not run the VIN, because it was not a standard N.A. 17 digit number sequence.
Here's the VIN, I posted it on another web site, when I was thinking about buying it from the Joliet dealer.
I am not sure that tells us it is a euro. You can't run a carfax on any car earlier than 1982, which I believe is the year that 17-digit vins were implemented in the US. If this was a 1983 car. Yes, that would indicate it is not a North American model.
You wrote "the dealer": Was it a Mercedes dealer or the dealer selling the car?
I think if you take that VIN to a Mercedes dealer or the classic center they might be able to tell you where the car was originally delivered or if it is a North American model or not. There is an option code for North American model which I believe is code 491. That doesn't mean the engine wasn't swapped one way or the other though. I do think the breather with the recirculating hose points to a North American model though. I believe you wouldn't have that hose on a euro mode, and there would be no reason to keep the hose if it was not in use.
My dream car is a classic sporty five speed (stick+overdrive) convertible that seats five. If, you want 70's-80's Mercedes tuner wheels, let me know.
