E430 Celebrity value?

A question: I found this really nice 2000 E430 at a wholesale auto auction. 96k miles when I got it, stuck some money into it, fixing up a few items and now mint condition so am asking $7,650. But as I am going through the cars service papers I discover that the first owner was actor Peter Boyle who played the monster in Mel Brooks "Young Frankenstein" and was on the long running TV series Everybody Loves Raymond among many other roles. He bought the car new from a Southampton NY dealer on 6/10/2000 and sold the car in late 2003. Boyle died in early 2006. His address in the service book match on google. So does that add to the cars value? I say no, my mechanic says to put it on EBay and watch the bids fly! More info: 3 | Paddy O'Brien Racing

No value at all. It takes Steve McQueen caliber personality to make that happen. Get what you can for it, move on to the next one.

Yes, I agree. I know that McQueens Porsche 911, that he did not drive much, went for $millions yet the cars that he drove most often, like his Mercedes 300SEL/6.3 and similar 280 SEL/4.5, sold for retail numbers, something like $50k and $25k respectively. I think his RayBan sunglasses went at auction for more than both Mercedes at $75k. Go figure.

Nice E430 but is that a duct tape on the upper radiator hose?
And is the front lower engine cover out of place?

Well... Why not stick it on Ebay and prove your mechanic wrong? Doesn't cost you anything if you don't sell it.

And good luck selling. At that price it might need some time to find somebody to bite. Prices might be different in your neck of the woods, but around here I think that would be about 5K ride.

Thanks for your comments. This winter, I am trying to keep my small racing team busy in the non-racing season. And, as our superstar driver is running out of trust fund money, we may have to look at plan B this year. With friends in the car business, I have picked up a few nice VW's and Audis, mostly pre 2007, at auction. Had the boys clean/ fix anything and have had no problem getting $5-$6,000 very quickly on Craigs list. Yet this W210 is the nicest of them all, truly a spectacular car that I have now driven over 3k miles because I just can't help it. Yet I will probably be lucky to get $5,000 for it. Last summer, I tried to sell my mint 1972 280SEL/4.5 to a US buyer but got zero interest even at a good price. However I found several serious European buyers with the car finally going to Sweden. I guess just not much value is given to old Mercedes sedans in the US, so back to flipping Jettas and Quattros! As to the rad hose, it looks new, as does the water pump. Could there have been a rub strip there that has partially come off? Others have seen it too, so I guess I should clean it up there, it could rub against the intake cover so will fix that. Great car though, I think I may just keep this one for me!
