FS - 1972 280 SEL 4.5

Hi Folks,

I've got a 1972 280 SEL 4.5 that I would like to sell. $2000 obo.

The good things going for it are it's a Southern California car. It has rust spots as shown in the photos but chassis is solid. Up to date registration with clean title in my name. Engine starts and car drives around the block.

Overall it is in very poor condition, Interior is in poor condition, exterior is too. Mechanically it is in poor condition.

I found the car this summer with no fuel pump, dead battery, and filthy oil. Rigged an after market fuel pump up, new air filter, plugged a battery in changed the oil and it started right up. Found a nicer 250s trunk lid since the original was beyond repair (still have badges and lid). Vacuum leaks, shift linkage and transmission challenges keep it from being a good driver, however it can go around the block or onto a trailer without much fuss. Have a few extra new things, and kept everything that I found it with.

Make me an offer. Send me a message or reply to the thread with questions, I will answer to the best of my ability.

Car is located in San Diego, CA 92107

All proceeds will go towards my 2006 CLS 500 .

Still for sale. Had some African princes contact me on Craigslist who never showed up. Nobody needs this car for parts or wants a cheap platform to restore? I couldn't find one part in a junkyard within 200 miles of San Diego, so somebody needs these parts.

I'd like to help a enthusiast, can tell you everything I know about it. Got a few extra parts in the garage.

Lets get this thing moved along to the right person!

Peter,
I think that if you let people know how much you want for the mercedes, you will get more interest. I am not a buyer since I am on the other side of the country but if you were local I would be discouraged from looking into your vehicle by not having a stated price. Whenever a mercedes comes up that I am interested in that has no price, I avoid it because I do not want to throw out a number that might offend the seller.

Best of luck with your sale. I hope someone comes along and restores your 280SEL.

Mike

Good call

Makes sense. Added a price to the OP, Thanks Michael!

Probably have better luck parting it out.
I've been looking for one for awhile but this one is a bit of a basket case.

Parting it out is an option, but not really best scenario for myself, since it runs and drives and is registered, I can park it on the street and drive it to the supermarket from time to time.

It certainly is a basket case. I was thinking rat rod all the way when I purchased it. Wide whites, blankets over the seats, pin stripping on bad panels, etc etc.

Have too many cars though, trying to make some space.
