FS: 1983 300D Euro 5-speed Getrag partial restore $4000obo
Revision: price drop to $4000obo. Please call with questions 808/635-2242.
This car was in storage for 10 years here at a ranch in New Mexico. Carefully brought it back into service: lubrication, complete fuel system purge, etc. I've been driving in now for a few months, never left me stranded, no scary noises aside from neutral release bearing that began to rattle three weeks ago. Power sunroof cleaned with alcohol & lubed with MBZ sunroof grease, ran back and forth and process repeated, working great now!
Michelin Defenders installed on euro-spec alloy rims. 800 miles ago
'Hi-Fly' spare also on euro-spec alloy. Never used.
Lemforder rear sway links.
Boge/Sachs new shocks all corners.
4x oil changes since brought back into service: 0,400 miles, 1200 miles and 2400 miles. Last two oil changes full synthetic.
Air filter & fuel filters. Trans fluid. Brake fluid x 2 flush. Clutch slave cylinder.
Behr thermostat. Coolant flushed 2x. Pass front wheel bearing F.A.G.
Turn-signal multi switch.
Complete interior from low mile 300d euro, 123k -(20+ hour job)
Behr radiator stamped '98, was used for 1 year.
High-spec euro lights with working vacuum system.
Grill and emblem.
Car has approx 291k miles. odometer stopped working promptly at 3/10 mile after getting back on the road. Have documentation of mileage and several years of repair from owner previous to storage. I've rebuilt a few of these odometers, not difficult, but I am moving back to Hawaii and out-of-time.
Unique euro parts: getrag 717.400, bumpers, french style lights w/vacuum, Becker Kourier radio working, manual windows, M-pump N/A motor, lightweight alloy wheels (11.5 lbs less each than steel wheels).
Still to-do: headliner, neutral release bearing, nozzles should be replaced(one or more not sealing completely-brief, lumpy idle at start-up), 'city lights' not working properly, PAINT, dashboard has serious cracks from desert sun.
Starts first try, very minimal blow-by, good power, smooth running. Suspension with tires & alloys & new shocks is excellent, best W123 road feel I've ever had. Traded my 1995 E300D for this car because I knew it was worth restoring. I've driven almost weekly from Taos to Santa Fe, some grades, some 91 degree afternoons, all good.
More pics to come tomorrow & will set up link to photo set.
