It shouldn't be too hard to at least see if it "boots" up when power is supplied.

Maybe take it to a car stereo shop and have them test out on one of their benches? A competent shop should even be able to vary the volts to mimic signals from the VSS, fuel tank, and whatever else it takes an an input. And you're in LA so there are a million such shops.

$600 is quite a plunge to take on a potential paper weight.

Dave, that is an ultra rare find! Congrats! I would say something much less than 1% of all W126's ever has this rare option... much less finding a Greymarket import in the US with one. Very expensive option that was designed way ahead of its time.

Don't mind the resident low-ballers who love to knit-pick things to make you think its worthless. For the rare complete sets that did pop up for sale, your price is just in line with what they've sold for. Europe is your best bet to get these sold as they've sold for as high as 500 Euro's. Not to mention that its got the km/metric readings.

Cracked wood is a $150 fix at Madera Concepts (if that bothers someone). The cluster can be connected to see if it powers on. The "brain box" is programmed for the differential ratio/motor... most likely its a Gen I 2.24 ratio.

If someone is truly interested in this item, they should research a lengthy thread Grumpy560 and I have worked on getting this rare option installed. Plenty of info there.

Not knowing whether or not the unit works and pointing out a $125 flaw is nitpicking?

Just because the seller is a "good guy" doesn't mean what he is selling is a "good deal".
