car looks fantastic except for the tear in the drivers seat cushion. Id bring it to Palacios Upholstery over in Scottsdale and get a quote to fix that. They do good work.
Cool jjay, I respect your deep knowledge of these cars but sometimes your attitude about pricing reminds me of when my uncle is trying to screw people out of antiques at their yard sale. (I don't care for his attitude, to be clear)
Sorry to say, you live in the middle of nowhere, which has its own perks but doesn't reflect life in urban areas in some ways. These cars are trendy and sought after. Jerry Seinfeld drives a combo just like my cars as daily drivers. They turn up in photo shoots and Some lucky folks make a fortune restoring them. Jalopnik voted it the best beater car of all time.
As for no one being willing to service them? I can think of 3 shops Id trust in Tucson, and at least 8 in Phoenix. Plus the dealers. Arm and a leg? On average, it costs you about $2000 a year to keep the check engine light shut off on your average 2005 crapbox. You can do a lot to a 300D on $2k a year. On one with glows, IP, AC already done, you won't have to.
There is no particular reason you should expect to pay less than you would for any other '70s-90s car... About four grand is about right for any CAR with 10 plus years ownership history, the fact that it is a 300D, IMHO, the best daily driver ever built, should drive the price UP not down.
