Scammer alert! Zero-post member 'stv12'.

Scammer alert!

I got a PM from 'stv12' on Friday asking if I was still looking for a Euro late-style differential. We switched to e-mail and talked about the unit in question. He said his PayPal was 'dormant' and wanted payment via Moneygram. OK, fine.

Then he said it was 'perfect' and had 70,000 miles on it. And he wanted $250 shipped. Too good to be true...

I googled his e-mail and these came up:

beware stv16 is a scammer - GT-R Register - Official Nissan Skyline and GTR Owners Club forum
Another scammer alert !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - THE H.A.M.B.

The fact that he's a zero-post member should be a clue too. Take care! I got all excited at first and was ready to send money.

His e-mail is 'Steve Parks'

Thanks Man!

Thanks maboyce, I am looking for a AMG wheel and he said he has a perfect one for (again) $250. I have asked for pictures so I guess that does it.

I'm just glad those other forums picked up on him and reported it - otherwise I would have probably sent him the money...phew...

Zero post member and dormant Paypal should have raised red flags. Glad you ended up searching.

Mercedes aren't for people who want to have one, it's for people who can have one.

"dormant" paypal? Never heard of it. I wouldn't send cash or check to someone who didn't have a history and reputation that supported it... I can see avoiding paypal to stay off the radar, but for no other reason (except the fees).

After reading this, I decided to check up on dormant PayPal since I have an old one I haven't used in over ten years. You guessed it, went there sent my regular PayPal $20 just to check it out, went right through, no messages, no errors, no updates, like I had been using it all along. Just an FYI

MoneyGram is definitely risky....but so is PayPal. I bought an engine from a guy up in Washington a few years ago. He skipped town and went to Louisiana where his wife was attending school for a few months. Kept getting excuse after excuse for the why the engine wasn't pulled yet. I called the cops, faxed over 60+ pages of email communications with him, and even had them go to his house in Washington. No one was home...that's when I started stalking for information and discovered his wife. It took a while, but he eventually refunded me. It was just a really sketchy situation. I think he had the right intentions, but didn't know when he would be back to WA to pull and send the engine, which he failed to communicate to me.

With MoneyGram, I had a company that sold certain items online. I used to shoot out 1k-15k payments to people I've never met in China for merchandise. It was always risky trying new suppliers because you never know who's going to take your money and run...especially if they're on another continent. I never had any issues, but I always told myself that if someone did fail to pull through, I would be having a "vacation" in China for as long as it took to find the person.

Unless someone has a history of successfully selling things online with other members, is a known member, is local with a verifiable address, or has some type of positive feedback, you're better off not sending MoneyGram at all. Send it PayPal. Have his ass make a new account. It takes less than an hour lol
