Wanted 1988 560SL

HI, new to the forum.

I am looking for a 1988 560SL specifically a body. I got into an accident and my body person says the cost to fix is prohibitive. My mechanic says the engine is in great shape with less than 70K miles. He suggested that I look for home for the engine. Looked at piecing it together with a 380SLC body but that is an expensive project that may not work.

In the perfect world a 1988 560sl body needing engine is what I am looking for - if anybody has parted out or blown out their engine, I am interested in the rest.

You can contact me at wiletrade2010@yahoo.com

Thanks

Mark

Timing chain rails are fine - mechanic says they are not a problem.

Famous last words prior to having a M117.967 boat anchor. Check out the 107 forum here on benzworld R/C107 SL/SLC Class - Mercedes-Benz Forum. We would be happy to discuss it further.

Look, I got to trust somebody and I've worked with my mechanic for over 25 years. The guy has never lied to me. Truthfully, it would be better for me to just start over but I have an attachment to this car.

I read the thread before even joining so I wouldn't be breaking any TOS.

I would be happy to hear any suggestions on finding a 1988 560SL body.

Exactly, so why would you trust a body of owners who have first-hand or at least second-hand info regarding the demolition potential of timing chain guide failures? After all, we have not been around with you 25 years... Your mechanic is probably a great guy, but is he as familiar with the foibles of the 107 as a whole cadre of owners who have collective experience for just about any potential issue with the breed? Besides, who benefits if your car goes ballistic?

Trust whom you want, but rest assured, no one here had anything but your best interests at heart in trying to inform you of the issue.

Best of luck in your quest.

PS, since you have the 560 still, you have all you need to insert the drivetrain into about any 107 chassis you want. 380's can be had for cheep. transfer your complete drive train and wiring harness (what a project) and you're good to go.

Where is it again that we are going... And why are we in a handbasket?
