This is basically what I bought about a year and a half ago:

2 5 Ton Auto Strut Coil Spring Compressor Hydraulic Tool HD Heavy Duty Auto Tool | eBay

Other than the curvature of the upper clamps not quite matching our springs, for the price it worked rather well for me. I did the front struts on my w203, and I did all four coil-over-shocks for my son's Honda Accord.

I've still got mine because it doesn't take up too much space in the garage. If I were to use it again I would do two things: (1) build a wooden support base to hold the strut firmly upright on the bottom plate, and (2) have a metal shop bend the upper tangs to a larger radius to match the w203 springs.

The nice thing about this unit is that you can have additional upper tangs made for different springs.

This one worked great for my spring change out. I then sold it at a small loss after I used it. I think of it as a rental charge for the tool.

I borrowed mine from a local MB indie the first time (ask on a Friday evening lol), and from a semi local member the second time.

I'll be going 50/50 with a friend soon though. Helps to have friends who also drive Mercedes.

I have a Klann spring compressor. Made in Germany, the one all the knock-off's are modeled after. Sell new $1600-1800. I'll sell $400 + shipping. I know it's double the price of Asian knock off's, but it is the best.
