WTB: 280SEL (280SE) in dark grey with red interior USA / West Coast

Looking for the proverbial needle in a hay stack..

1973 (1972/1971) 280 SEL 4.5 in Anthracite Grey with Red interior.
Would like to have a sunroof and floor shift, but neither are deal breakers.
Needs to be rust free and should have documentation.
Will consider other color combinations (no blue or brown) at a price that will let me change the paint color or change the interior color and still not exceed my price point.
Anthracite with Black
White with Red

Looking to spend about $14,000 for the right car in the right color. I see lots of blue on blue cars in that price range, but looking for THE car....
Probably will be a couple months before I pull the trigger unless THE car comes up....

US cars only, prefer west coast location but fly in and drive home is an option.

Let me know if you have my idea of the perfect Merc or if you know where it is...

Thanks
Rich

Cooper Classics in NYC has a nice 300SEL in this exact color. I met with Jake from the showroom last weekend to check out the car. Very nice color combo! Check out the link if you haven't already seen it: 1970 Mercedes 300SEL -

I did find that car on line through Hemmings and spoke to Jake last week. They want $35k and I was told they were already working a deal on it with someone. Besides, that's over my budget.... NADA puts a 1973 280SEL at $15k high retail... I did save the pics as my desktop as that is a beautiful car.

The price does seem a bit steep. A similar 3.5 in Arabian gray over white with a red interior just sold on E-bay for around 15,000. However, the Anthracite with the red interior looks really current and I suspect that someone who wants a super clean and unmolested original car will fork over a bit more for the one at Cooper. Good luck with your search!

Damn shame we are parting out the Silver SEL 4.5 on the left. We probably could have made it what you want for that price if the trunk pan wasn't rotted out. Fenders have rust too, but as you can see, we have spares. The two SE next to it are pretty rot-free.

I will keep my eyes peeled for you.

I had a 73 280SEL 4.5 project that I sold. Plan B would be any cheap but RUST FREE long wheelbase car that I could customize with modern air ride and a fresh motor.
I keep going back and forth. Obviously a sorted car would be ideal... but I'm looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Keep Looking! It may come up. I searched for 4 years before I found my 300SEL and although I was really looking for a short wheelbase 280SE with floor shift and sunroof in those same colors. I'm very happy with the 300. The car was relatively inexpensive to buy but the restoration costs have been astronomical. Here are before and after pics:
