I've had this '74 450SL for a few years now, and it's time for the car to find its next home. I simply don’t have the time to give this fine little car the attention it needs. It could be a nice driver with a little work (how I used it), or worst case an excellent parts car. Currently registered and insured with CT antique plate. $2500 or best reasonable offer.
1974 Mercedes-Benz 450SL. Approximately 110,000 miles. Was daily driven in the fall of 2011, has been driven sporadically ever since. When not driven, the car is safely garaged
Starts right up, runs strong, and stops well
Beautiful 16” BBS wheels – unfortunately missing the centercaps on two of them
Nice black leather interior with rear jump seat
Many engine vacuum hoses have been replaced
New inboard and outboard front wheel bearings
New spark pugs
New front brake rotors and pads, new rear pads
New upper control arm bushings
Rear fuel system overhaul including new fuel filter, new fuel strainer, and all of the hoses in the rear fuel assembly.
New steering coupler
New mufflers (center and rear)
Clogged roof drains from the previous owner have caused some rust problems. I welded in a thick, replacement floorpan on the passenger's side, but there is still some rust in the wheel wells that should be addressed
The car was resprayed in the ’90s to GM Torch Red, and there are some rust bubbles and other paint imperfections
The car pulls to the right, and there is a decent amount of play in the steering wheel. I bought the tools to adjust the steering box, but never got around to doing the job.
The soft top is torn and in need of replacement
Power locks do not work
Climate control system is non-operational, although the heat can be turned on manually
Cruise control hasn’t worked since Reagan was president.
Odometer stopped working around 90k miles. Car has been driven less than 20k since then.
Missing one of the muffler hangers
