FS: 1985 Mercedes Benz 300D Turbo Diesel W123

Very clean W123. Low miles for its age - 183K. It's in great shape inside and out. It runs great, cranks up quickly every time. Rides smoothly on the highway. Haven't had the compression checked, but I haven't noticed any blow-by. Mechanic said it didn't need a valve adjustment two months ago. Daily driver. For a 30 year old car, it still gets 25 MPG. $4500 OBO.

I hate to sell it, but I have a new roof to pay for.

The good-
- Seats, headliner, carpet in great shape
- Body is very straight, paint in good shape
- No cracks in the dash
- Wood trim in great shape
- Power windows and sunroof all work just like they're supposed to
- Rust-free
- New motor mounts
- Tires and brakes both replaced earlier this year - less than 10K miles on them.
- CD player with Bluetooth (still have the Becker radio, but it's inoperable)
- Upgraded speakers (still have the originals)

The bad (there are a couple)-
- AC compressor is locked up
- Tachometer doesn't work
- Cruise control doesn't work
- Slight tear in the B-pillar covering.
- First Aid kit is intact (doesn't look like it's ever been used), but the cover shattered last summer.

I've had it for about a year and a half. I bought it from a friend who's a Mercedes enthusiast and realtor, and who found it in the garage of a guy for whom he'd just sold the house. It's been my daily driver ever since.

Since I've had it, I've replaced the alternator, ball joints, put on new tires and brakes, fixed the vacuum locks, replaced the diaphragm in the HVAC control, replaced a relay in the HVAC, replaced the broken Becker radio with a JVC Arsenal unit (still have the Becker), swapped out speakers, replaced fuel filters, had the fuel tank drained and cleaned, and replaced fuel lines. I've also had the mechanic check for valve adjustments, but he didn't seem to think it needed it last time I had it in a couple months ago. Also, I've obviously changed the oil using Rotella. The trans fluid is still clear and viscous, but I imagine it would need changing around 200K miles.

As I said, I don't particularly want to sell it, but I have a new roof to pay for.

Wow, weird... I thought that was in the orginal post, now I see it wasn't. My mistake, I'll fix that right now.

183K

Also, I meant to add - this is right about the time MB switched from the tach amplifier on the driver side fender well to the sensor in the bell housing. I replaced that, and the tach still doesn't work. The rest of the gauges, clock and odometer, do.
