FS: 1972 280 SEL 4.5 S. California cosmetic fixer $1200
I bought a car because I wanted the radio out of it and have fixed a few things. I would like to sell it quickly.
4.5 engine runs well.
Transmission shifts smoothly in all forward gears.
Differential doesn't make any noise.
Suspension seems nice and not creeky.
Air Conditioning comes on and compressor turns although I doubt it is charged
Rockers, trunk pan, floors are all rust-free
Original California car with correct Blue licence plates
Transmission does not go into reverse. Sun Valley Mercedes says it's a reverse modulator thing and said $250 to fix.
Paint is horrible
Extensive surface rust on hood, roof, trunk lid. All that will sand off
Dent in front bumper and front left fender
Various power windows work or don't work
I already took the Becker radio out of it
Horrible ancient tires
Car pull to left on hard stop
This is a good car for someone who wants a DIY serious cosmetic fixer, or for someone who wants a 4.5 V8 engine and rear axle. I have driven it 30 miles (when I bought it) on the bad tires on the freeway at speeds up to 75 mph and it rides nice.
$1200 obo, I'm located near Pasadena California (Los Angeles)
If someone is going to buy it and drive it far, I can provide a set of Bundt wheels with good tires to make it safer to drive.
