In private transactions, taxes are collected by the state during registration by the new owner. Not the seller.

If you are collecting taxes, either you are a dealer or breaking the law.

If you are a dealer, you MUST collect taxes, handle the title transfer/registration AND verify current insurance as you cannot sell to someone without it.

Just a suggestion....

If im not a dealer But work full time at a dealer place I can drive on a deler plate all I want also I know for sure when I bought a car from dealer I had to go register delaer is not required to do anything. If you are arguing about all these laws here than you must be from CT because we all know these laws are different state to state. I have no clue about the tax part I thought wrong I guess. Next time you make a for sale post Ill make sure to budge in also. Thats just messed up man.

It would be wiser, if you're not a dealer, to remove the dealer stuff prior to posting things for sale. If you are a dealer, than you're prohibited from selling here and you shouldn't be selling cars while representing yourself as a non-dealer when you are.

Either way - you're in a pickle now.
Are you a moderator or wanting to become one? Surelly you would become a very nice and helpfull one. By the way I did not know stickers on the windshield are only available to dealers.

What state are you from that you are coming up with these funny laws? I think Im mistaken about the tax part but I really does not matter it has to be paid when you buy a car one way or another. When Im a full time hired at a dealer I can actually drive a dealer plate all I want and Ive been doing it for years. Also Dealer is not required to register your car here in CT. You go to DMV and register your self unless you want to pay the dealer conveniance fee for registration he wont do it for you. Next time you have something to sell Ill make sure to budge my genius in too.

I'm not from CT but, as indicated, I know the car sales biz.... and I did say it was a friendly suggestion.

You do what you want.

For what it's worth, in Florida if you sell more than three vehicles a year the state considers you a dealer. When the titles go through they keep track, and if you exceed the number they come after you with a hefty fine.

From what Ive heard its 20 cars for CT. My friend went and asked at the DMV 2 months ago because he wants to make some flips on the side. Would have to veryfy that though my self to be sure he always makes stuff up. . 3 cars really sucks though I understand why you would think Im a dealer. I tried to find the law for CT but all I found is michigan it says 20 cars. I think It depends on state like you said.
