If the top worked and no other problems, I think you could easily get $9k. If the hydraulics are broken, get Klaus at Tophydraulics to rebuild them. All 12 cost $560 plus labor. You might not need them all done. If not, I think he charges about $55 each.
I just purchased my 1991 SL 500 about 5 weeks ago. I paid about $4k and putting another $5k into it. Half is on the top. I thought it was just the hydraulics but the soft top cracked once the hydraulics worked. Other things include brakes, belt, plugs & wires, seat issues, dome light, hood heat pad, fluids and filters. More than I wanted to spend but at least it should all be in good working condition when done.
