Just throwing it out there to see what you guys think. Do you think I'd be better off parting this out? It's in real good shape, but for the price of components with these, and the OM603, and trans, and all the wagon-centric parts, I was just curious if I was making a mistake. Not that I have the time to do it now, but I can keep it inside a shop until next spring and work on dismantling it bit by bit and cataloging the parts over the winter. Part of me thinks it's a waste to part out a rust free wagon that runs and drives great, but with the limited number of these made, wasn't sure if parting was the better alternative. I've been watching what engines bring on ebay, various parts, and I'm not sure what's the best route.
The other REMOTE option I was thinking about is just storing it, and when I get time, blow some coin on some PPG Basecoat/Clear, and just re-coat the whole car with new paint as I get time to work on it. I did this for a living for years, and lately, have come out of retirement of sorts for a few friends and family for their projects here and there. I still have all my equipment and sprayguns, and after seeing how good their stuff has turned out, I also thought of keeping this and one other W126 car inside a shop until I had time to get to them. The sides would buff out REAL nice on the wagon, but the top surfaces are fair at best with clear peeling. But an allover paint job would drastically change this car. Eh, just a pipedream, as I cant imagine when I'd have any time to mess with it. But, after I did some body work and paint of parts for my father, it did cross my mind, albeit briefly...
Here's a hood I did last weekend for him. This deep shine and protection on the wagon would be huge, but take a huge dent out of my life, lol.
