For Sale: 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300TE - in Great Shape!

For Sale: 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300TE – photos online here:
https://plus.google.com/photos/11090...COXuzZX6qpvgRg

167,500 original miles, rebuilt engine in ~2005 with less than 30,000 miles on the new engine. Champagne exterior with tan leather interior. Exterior is in excellent condition, minor wear, one spot of rust on rear passenger wheel well and very minor damage on the rear wheel well (see pic). Overall, the paint is in excellent condition with glossy sheen. Has a sunroof as well as a luggage rack.

Tan Leather in excellent condition, no rips or tears. 3rd row seating in back is accessible through the hatch. All original interior.

Blaupunkt Multi-CD player stereo system. Excellent sound. Rear passenger speaker cover (on door) missing.

All environmental controls work fine. The middle fan-control button cover is missing, but can be pressed and used anyway (see pic of console).

This Mercedes was driven by my elderly mother for her normal driving needs, which were minimal. The Mercedes has not been in any major accidents. The car runs great! It’s a boat (as you probably already know) but it’s completely solid. I’m selling it because my mother can’t drive anymore and doesn’t need it. I have been driving it every couple of weeks on errands, just to keep everything lubed up and happy, but I would like to sell it to someone who can really use it. No repairs needed. Great car!

KBB has its private party sale value listed as $4,500 for “Very Good” condition but will take a reasonable offer. It’s worth every penny. I have a clean title in hand and have full guardianship powers (can complete sale as though I was my mother).

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to talk about this great car!! Please contact me at scgibbens@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Stacey

Gotta love these wagons! I had a 95 E320 wagon in the same color combo and I still miss it! though there are a few things to note with this ad.

The first thing I notice is that the interior is MB-Tex vinyl not leather.

There is no mention of the 4Matic system, so I'm assuming it is inoperable and/or disengaged.

Current KBB used price guide values only go back to 1993 so I'm not sure where you got that price. In addition, if you option out a 1993 300TE with the same zip code, mileage and options it states a 'Very Good' private party value of $3,703. Though I think 'Good' or even 'Fair' would be a more accurate description given the photos, rust, and no word on the AWD system.

Don't mean to scare anyone away just want to make sure it's accurately described. Anyway good luck with sale!

It's got to have leather - it's highly unlikely to have MBTex unless it was ordered special.

I'm confused by the badging, as Mercedes didn't use the "E300" designation until 93 or 94, I believe.

How's about posting the VIN so we can determine exactly what it is?

And a 1991 300TE with 4Matic would not be a $4500 car, at least not with those kind of miles. More like $3k or thereabouts. If you have service records for the life of the car that might up the value somewhat.

A definite PPI candidate, too, as the 4Matic system is prone to leak and it expensive to seal up when it does. Service records could alleviate some of those concerns if you have them.

Also, who maintained the car - WorldWide Motors/MB of Indianapolis?

I think you may have that switched, MB-Tex was standard, leather was an option.

But I'll let you decide, here is what leather looks like in 1990+ cars

Here is what the MB-Tex looks like

and here is the car in question

Updates and clarification

Hi Everyone, thanks for your input!

Like I said in the original post, I am selling this car that is my elderly mother's. I do not have access to the service records. If the car is worth more like $3,000 then that's what I'm willing to take for it. The 4Matic light on the dash does come on when the car is started - as shown in one of the photos. I have not attempted to engage the 4Matic mode - haven't needed it. My brother gave me the estimated blue book value.

The car was maintained since the early 2000's through 2011 by Mercedes-Benz of Wilmington, DE. Authorized Mercedes Dealer | Wilmington , Delaware My mom bought the car at auction, had it serviced and repaired and eventually did get a rebuilt engine as stated earlier.

The car was transported here (on flatbed trailer) to Indianapolis in mid-2011 when my mother moved out here to be near me. Since then it's had routine service by Mike's Auto Service in Greenwood, IN. Nothing major has been needed. Greenwood Indiana Mercedes Service | Mercedes Benz Mechanic | Auto Repair Shop 317-889-7722

I thought the seats were leather. If Komrade 124 is right, then the seats are MB-Tex vinyl. Any ideas how to make a true determination? They sure do look like the picture he posted as an example of MB-Tex vinyl.

Anyone interested in my mom's car?

Stacey

Interesting. Didn't know there was an MB service place in Greenwood (I used to live there and my brother still has a place in Valle Vista.)

I haven't had a chance to go back and look, but if the interior is MBTex you're better off - the stuff wears like iron.

Might want to put it in the local Craigslist for your original asking price and see if you get any hits.

GLWS,

Dan
