Hey guys, been looking to sell my merc and I really want to get her to a good home. I figure this site, and greasecar will be my best bet to hopefully find a warm garage.
It's an 83 Turbo Diesel, 291k miles, runs great. I bought it from a total turbodiesel geek (so maybe you've seen it around here before?) after my SAAB got totaled when someone ran a red light early in the spring. The car is very shiney, I always keep it waxed, however it is a respray and the masking wasn't perfect. The engine bay, and a few other small areas still show the original yellow color. Regardless, noone has noticed so far and I have never gotten so many compliments! Here is a high res photo gallery: Mercedes W123 Turbo Diesel - a set on Flickr
The previous owner was meticulous and went through everything from the vacuum system (even the pods in the doors) to the turbo (new old stock) to a bunch of diesel things I'm not too familiar with like new glow plugs. He changed both fuel filters with every oil change and I do the same. He gave me the receipts, its a fat folder, good luck finding another car with this many records!!
Runs perfect, idles...well...like a diesel, starts right up
Beautiful metallic paint attracts a lot of attention
Tan interior is in great shape
Aftermarket stereo with aux in and cd player, radio works just fine
Brakes are some of the best I've driven
All power windows, including huuge sunroof
No rust (there was a small hole in the floor that was repaired a long time ago)
Good tires, Pirelli P6
Finicky vacuum system recently renovated, something you really have to look after in these cars
Not a single burned out light anywhere on the car
Doesn't leak a single drop of oil
Engine clean enough to eat off of
First couple of shifts are a little rough when cold
Paint masking wasn't perfect
Needs a tach amp for trip odometer and tach to work (regular odometer works fine, I may replace the tach amp prior to selling)
Minor imperfections here and there, radio antenna stays up
Sounds and smells like a school bus
I am all moved up and settled into my new home in Connecticut, so I am ready to show and even deliver the car! (as long as you give me a ride back) Ultimately, I want another SAAB, so if you have one for trade I would be very interested as long as it has a manual transmission. Classic 900 models as well as 9-5's.
