1973 Mercedes-Benz 280C
'Light Ivory' w/ Mahogany MB tex. Starts every time, runs like a top..
I bought this car out of Northern California (near Monterey) in the Spring of 2012 and had it shipped to Minnesota as my Summer event car (some event photos below).
The car is a veteran on the first annual Walleye 1000 Vintage Rally
. It ran flawlessly over two days of back roads through rural Wisconsin and Minnesota. It ran all day, both days at sustained highway speeds between 50 and 75 mph during that really hot, record breaking temperature, first weekend in June of 2012, temps were in the high 90s and the car ran perfectly, didn't even think about overheating.
I did some sorting when I got the car. I had some upholstery work performed, installed a new outside mirror, all electric window switches were cleaned and serviced, all four electric windows go up and down as they should.
Mechanically the car received new suspension bits up front, sub frame bushings. It got a general tune up, filters, oil change, spark plugs, etc. It also got new distributor brushes. All work was done at either Lake Country Classics in Minneapolis or at Huber's Imported Car Service in Golden Valley, MN. Four new tires were installed and an alignment was performed at Twin City Tire in Bloomington, MN. I haven't put 2000 miles on the car, or those tires since I got it. The odometer shows about 44,677. True mileage is unknown, it's got to be 144k+. Since I pulled it out of my friend's heated warehouse, where I keep it for the Winter, last month, the odometer hasn't worked, I've probably driven it 200 miles this season.
The car is dry. The trunk seal was the first thing to be replaced on the car when I got it. There was light surface oxidation because moisture was trapped under the rubber trunk mat. I have before and after pictures of trunk restoration. It was light surface rust I brushed off and painted over. The rubber trunk mat is with the car and included with the sale. Underside of the car is dry and solid, no rust!
A/C compressor is there, but not hooked up, no belt. No radio or speakers installed, fog lamps not hooked up (all other lights work), one dash crack, wood is try and most of the lacquer like shiny finish is long gone. Wheels are 15" from a later W126 car, brand new tires, I don't have the original bundt wheels, the spare is a bundt.
Car received a repaint at some point, probably a long time ago, in its original 'Light Ivory' color. The car has an honest patina that shows it has been well maintained and cared for yet enjoyed. It's just a fun, reliable cruiser.
This is an honest, driver quality car that will get you where you're going every time in comfort and style. I would hop in it right now and drive to California today. An awesome entry level Benz.
Clean, clear title in my name in hand.
Why am I selling? I bought a Porsche 911 and one of 'em has to go.
Seriously and realistically for sale at $4500.
