1985 Mercedes Benz 280 SL - 22,000/obo

**SOLD** This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL roadster needs no introduction, but this example is quite rare and worthy of special note. It's a Euro-spec car with a drivetrain and many features unavailable on U.S. market SLs, making it truly one of a kind. We are only the 2nd family that has owned this SL since it was imported in 1985. The car is in near perfect condition.

This 280SL features an exceptionally smooth 2.8 liter twin cam fuel injected straight six never offered in the U.S. The engine is mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox that shifts beautifully. All mechanical systems are working as they should, and we have extensive service records since the mid-1980s. It has been retrofitted to U.S. specs and passes smog with no issues. This too has been well documented in our records. The odometer shows 28864 original miles so this SL is barely broken in. The a/c has recently been serviced and blows cold brakes and steering feel great, and tires are Pirelli Cinturato with about 60% of life left. The car even has cruise control (with labels on the stalk marked in German). It has a Sony radio with cassette player only which works perfectly. It has 2 tops, the one you see and a brown soft top below. The top has been removed literally only a few times. The interior is in excellent original condition, with genuine leather seats (most of these SLs were finished in synthetic MB-Tex) the leather shows absolutely no wear at all consistent with its age and mileage.

This car has been completely babied by my father. He takes immaculate care of all of his vehicles. All fluids and maintenance have been regularly cared for by Mercedes-Benz certified mechanics. It is in near perfect condition. The paint is flawless with no traces of rust on the body/chassis at all. It has never been in an accident and I have the official Carfax report to prove this as well. It also has a clean title. The registration is paid through November of this year.

The few things that need to be worked on/replaced are the antenna (it no longer raises to its full length), the wheel lugs should be replaced as they are starting to rust, and the front driver's side and passenger side mats.
The originals were taken out as they have my Father's initials on them.

Please contact with me any questions and/or if you would like to come see the car in person and take a test drive. Here are some more detailed pictures - http://hjw.smugmug.com/Other/280SL/2...1796&k=dnc6M77
I'm listing the car at $22,000/obo.

Are you sure it is a three speed? I though 4-speed automatics were mated to the 2.8.

(Manual trans had switched from 5-speed being optional to being standard by 1985.)

Also, you might not want to call the mileage original unless you can provide (import) documentation that the MPH speedometer / odometer was matched up to what was most likely a KmPH speedo. (My 1981 280slc 4-speed manual shows only ~4000 miles on odometer when federalized in 1985, so I'm pretty confident that the MPH odometer on mine was not matched up.). Even the date of import will help substantiate the claim that the mileage is original. It is often close since people usually only paid the money to import them when relatively new.

The comments above are intended to be helpful in you listing in other marketplaces. (This is often a hypercritical one.)

It does look like a very nice low mileage example. GLWS !
