RARE 1984 Mercedes Benz 500 SEC Euro
Midnight Blue, Beige leather interior. ORIGINAL OWNER. This is a gray market car. The engine develops 250 bhp, and 300 lb.ft. of torque. The car's top speed is 140 mph. Zero to 60 is approximately 6.5 seconds. The car has ABS brakes and high intensity lights. options that were available in Europe years before they were available in the US. The Euro alarm system uses ultrasonics to detect glass breakage and intrusion. The alarm has a separate battery, siren and horn. The car has headlight wiper/washers, and dashboard controlled headlight alignment.
The car has been meticulously maintained by the local Mercedes dealer or Mercedes specialty shop. The car was always garaged. The car has a navigation system by Philips (display is visible in photos) CD maps by Navtec, the CD reader is in trunk. Navigation system is controlled by a hand held remote control. In the trunk is also a 250 watt audio amplifier. There are eight speakers with two woofers under the rear window.
No accidents or repaints. All records from day one. The car is very close to showroom condition. In the past three years I have replaced the transmission, the exhaust system, from cats back, the motor mounts, the driveshaft flex discs, the timing chain, rocker arms and the battery. The tires are about 60% worn. Everything on car works, except the clock.
I have made three modifications from stock.
Modification #1: I had the original 2.24:1 rear axle ratio replaced with a 2.82:1 ratio from a 450SL. That made the car dramatically more responsive in city traffic, and the transmission does not need to downshift for brisk highway passing. There seems to have been little change in fuel mileage or engine noise at highway speeds.
Modification #2: I replaced the original 14" alloys with a set of 15", late 80's, 8 slot Mercedes SEC wheels, visible in photos. I was no longer able to find the original 14" 205/70x14 tires after a few years. Car now has 225/50x15 tires. (I have the original 14" alloys, with excellent tires on them.)
Modification #3: the car has been lowered 1", and the speedometer was recalibrated to reflect the larger diameter tires and the higher rear axle ratio, I did not have the odometer gears changed. The odometer reads 16% too many miles. The car has only 107,300 actual miles on it althought the odometer show different (semantics).
The A/C has been converted to the current refrigerant. The battery was replaced in July, 2012.
Anything that needed replacing was replaced with a Mercedes part.

I am listing this vehicle for a senior friend who suffers from macular degeneration that has made it impossible for the owner to drive ANY of his vehicles. This car must be sold, the owner has many memories in this vehicle and it may be clouding his pricing ($19950). I am going to open it up to serious offers or pricing suggestions. Thanks, boomer
