My car was borken into.. they struck at the glove box door lock area from above with a knife or screw driver I'm guessing. The shutting/locking mechanism was damaged, and the door will no longer shut. Most of the latch assembly is still in good shape. The problem seems to only be right at the point where the door would latch onto the glove box "catch" in order to stay shut. So I can either buy a new door for my black interior or try to figure out which of these many, little parts I see in a diagram are the ones I need. I can't find a door in black anywhere so I'm going the "parts" route. Of course, I could be wrong in my findings regarding which parts I need to fix this.. but what can one do.. If there I an affordable door out there I might decide to just buy a new door. But these are the parts I believe I need to fix this:
(PS I'm very knew to trying to do these things on my own and am doing my best as far as my approach and description.. thanks for your patience)
1239940245 Lock, striker to instrument panel
(this next one is confusing.. the mercedes diagram shows one part as #76.. but in the corresponing descriptions and part numbers for the #76 there are two part numbers given with the same name):
1266890125 striker & 1266890025 striker
The next one is a screw and simply reads "screw" with no part number. The diagram seems to show this screw goes into the above part (striker), and although it only shows one screw I'm assuming it requires two.. but I'm not certain.
After listing all of this it sure makes me want to just replace the door, but it's all interesting and a learning experience.. So any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated.. Unless you're going to say I talk to much and should just buy a new car!
