87 560SL Red/Palomino For Sale - Dallas

I am selling my 1987 560SL. It has 44k documented miles. It looks and drives like brand new.

1987 Mercedes 560 SL Roadster
VIN: WDBBA48D0HA065813
• Original Soft top (Brown)
• Original Removable hard top (Red)
• Fuel injected 5.6 liter overhead cam engine (all original)
• 4 speed automatic transmission
• 4 wheel independent suspension
• 45k documented miles
• No accidents
• Garage kept
• No outstanding maintenance or performance issues
• Runs and drives perfectly – very powerful and fast!
• Nada retail values: low $9,845, avg. $12,650, high $23,210
• Asking $17,500 due to low mileage and excellent maintenance
• Clear Title
This car was purchased by my Grandfather in 1995 with 28k miles. I purchased the car from him in 2005 with 41k miles. I am the 3rd owner. Since my purchase I have cleaned the entire car top to bottom as well as repaired/updated the following:
• New timing chain guides (preventative maintenance)
• New brake calipers, rotors, pads & steel braided cables
• New wheel bearings, seals & grease
• New suspension ball joints & tie rods
• New front sub-frame body mounts (rubber was old)
• New front shock absorbers
• New steering stabilizer
• New steering gear box gaskets (repaired leak & flushed)
• New front end alignment (10/12)
• New valve cover gaskets
• New battery (6/12)
• New muffler (10/12)
• New tires (11/12)
• Rebuilt air conditioning compressor and replaced hose, converted from R12 to R134a (7/12)
• New climate control (push button) unit in center console
• New LED dash lights
• New fuel filter & refreshed fuel pump assembly
• New oil filter & synthetic blend oil – no leaks
• Transmission flush
• Radiator coolant flush
• Brake system flush
• Fuel injection clean & ran 12 bottles of Techron in tank in past year (improved idle)
• Fresh spark plugs & wires
• Distributor serviced and cleaned
• All engine vacuum lines checked and sealed
• Cleaned and refreshed entire undercarriage
• Repaired clock in instrument cluster (replaced capacitors)
• All repairs and mileage are documented
• Does not need the state emissions inspection after 25 years, safety check only
Pending issues:
• Soft top is original, looks great but one of the side vinyl windows has a crack where it creases while in storage (I rarely used the soft top)
• Rear dent by gas tank filler
• Small door ding passenger side
• Front bumper dents in chrome
• Plastic radiator fan shroud is cracked
• Missing original radio/cassette deck (Becker BE1480, ebay $100), I have the original wiring harness and factory documentation
• Small cracks in clear coat on center console

This is a heavy car and drives like a dream. The engine and transmission are rock solid and incredibly smooth. Freeway performance is ridiculous. I bought it as a weekend car and wanted to keep it in the family. I am selling it because it needs to be driven more and I need the space in my garage for other toys. I know this car very well and can assist with guidance, advice and recommendations. Visit Mercedes-Benz Forum for expert advice.

Decent price with the preventive maintenance that has been done. I have seen similar 560SLs advertised in this price range that will need the timing chain service and front subframe bushings etc.

Good luck with the sale.

I'd say its a fair market and reasonable asking price considering the low mileage and the repairs/PM works provided they were done so using OEM replacement parts and all are well documented.

According to the seller's post - very little is indicated as being needed to bring it back up to optimum condition and is mostly cosmetic which indicates to me it could be a good buy.

Having stated that, the condition of the dash in undisclosed, i.e. whether a cap has been installed or not (can't tell from the photos provided) and I denoted no mention of upper/lower control arm bushings albeit the BJs, stabilizer and shocks were changed at 44k pr less miles on it. Also seems odd to me that the exhaust system had to be changed (muffler). No mention or appearance of rust (yeah or nay) and also denote the door edge guards which like the fender trim can be a haven for condensation to form.

Very nice car, beautiful pictures. I really like the car and its appearance.

And same time I am also confused about the provided maintenance register, 44k does not match with the listed jobs, sorry. Hope all the work has been done as preventive maintenance.
