The TEXAS SESQUICENTENNIAL license plates not only were produced for ONE year, to celebrate 150 years of TX Independence, but they are a completely DIFFERENT DESIGN & COLOR COMBINATION than other license plates issued before 1986 or since.
(NON-"special design plates" were also sold by the DMV in 1986, so the Sesquicentennial plates were "special" even 27 years ago.)
In my case, I especially wanted the "special issue plates" as I was an official of one of the "official celebrant organizations" (THE TEXAS WAGON TRAIN ASSN.) that sponsored our year-long celebration of "TEXICAN-ism".
(YEP, "TEXICAN" is the OFFICIAL spelling, by act of The Texan Republic's Congress in 1837, rather than "Texan". = The Congress-critters of that era said that TEXICAN rhymed with more words than TEXAN does. - Other than MEXICAN & LEXICON, can you think of any such words? =====> I cannot, even as a historian & devotee of "things Texican", imagine what, if anything, that those Revolutionary folks were thinking. Our TX politicians have always been "just a bit eccentric". = CHUCKLE.)
