What I've been hearing lately is that it has to go through the full Califorina Air Resources Board certification process that any grey market car would go through coming into California. California is (I think) still playing hardball on this and I think that the cost is in the $5000 range for the certification.

I recently smogged a 280 CE that DID have the CARB cert, and the smog station was very interested in the CARB sticker being exactly where it was on the car. I think that there are mistakes that fall through the cracks, but I think the current rule is no grey market cars that don't have CARB cert...

I like the red and the four cylinders, but that's just me.

+1 to Zukam. It's nice, but overpriced.

Why is the engine compartment painted black? Is the signal red original to the car?

M102 makes it easier to swap in a M103, or change the transmission to the dogleg getrag 5-speed from a 16v 190E.

1985 280TE 5spd
1986 190E 2.3-16V
1986 300E 5spd 24hoursoflemons car.

I like what you're thinking on M102 to M103 swap. Curious too about the black paint in the engine bay, as the seller claims it's all original.

It's an interesting car that surely will generate good potential buyers, however there needs to be more DETAIL. Close up shots of every bit of the car to give the buyer more reason to be interested. Detail it inside out, have a good photographer go through it, but do not retouch or edit any photographs. A good, honest and detailed representation, with tons of photographs, will surely give you more interest.

Given that, it's still a 4-cylinder 2.3L engine, which is less desirable than the 2.8L straight six.

How did you come up with your price? $5,682 seems like a random number.

As a fellow 230ce owner I would support the highest possible price you can get for the car, however if there isn't enough action at the current price it might just come down to price. If you don't want to lower it, I would plan on keeping it.

I always think that I will never get anything close to what I have put into my car, but I plan on keeping mine for awhile.

This car should be able to be registered in Calif as a Historical Vehicle which waves the smog requirement. The downside is that you would not be able to use it as a daily driver.

If you can't sell it, keep it. It's a nice car, and I feel it will be worth what you are asking in a few years as well.
