for sale or parting out 85 500sec

I have a 1985 500sec still running good physical condition but there is a problem with the cooling system. The car starts and runs (a little rough ever since cooling system started having problems) but after about half a mile the car will overheat. I will accept any reasonable offer for the entire car or will sell parts as needed. Please note that the car will need to be hauled away as it overheats very quickly. I am located in frederick maryland. email: lplatt13@gmail.com call or text (prefer text as i have school and work) 3013058397

Have you checked the thermostat? Sounds typical of one stuck closed. Could be a simple fix.......

yes i have replaced the thermostat a friend of mine who is a mechanic also stopped by and breifly looked it over he thinks it is a bad water pump and if not that that its more than likely a blown head gasket

Take a look under the oil fill cap for that milky residue that could spell bad head gasket. Oh, and check the engine oil dipstick as well. If they are both clean and there are no obvious coolant leaks, then it may be only the water pump.

Similar problem

I had an 82 380SEC that developed a bad catalytic converter. Gradually, over time it started to lose power and overheat. It was very frustrating because multiple mechanics misdiagnosed the problem. One guy cut off the exhaust and the car ran perfectly. With a new Cat it was fine. I hope that helps!
