When you say "worth more than I am asking" what are you asking, I missed that part?

Sounds like you are describing a complete rebuild, what is the cars history?

The first owner was involved in a light front end collision subsequently the insurance took the car after the settlement this was 2004 a car lot in P.A. bought the car then sold it to the Gentleman I bought it from in Ohio. He literally spent nearly $40,000 with the price of the car making it new down to the last nut and bolt. It was in climate controlled storage for 8 years until I bought it from him. Life has moved in a different direction for me unfortunately forcing me to sell my dream car

$11,000 takes it all includng the two new headligts I bought tonight

When the insurance company took the car and paid the owner a settlement after a collision it meant the car was declared a total loss. The title should indicate "rebuilt" or "salvage" if re-sold as road-worthy vehicle.

I may be mistaken. But, this is the closest conclusion I could come up based on the quoted statement.

No disrespect intended. I'm just interested to know the real story.

I see that you are a lifetime premium member, so with that being said I would assume you have a solid knowledge of Mercedes. Everything in the early years of AMG before Mercedes bought themdoes not reflect on the vin. It was all done after the cars left the factory, accordingly there will be nothing to represent such in the data card from Mercedes. It was all done by customer/dealer requests. Thanks for giving the opportunity to both clarify that and educate you at the same time.

In 2004, the previous owner could have bought a CPO'ed 2000-2001 R129 for around $40,000. I was looking at a Silver Arrow for $50,000 during that time. I didn't liked the black and white interior. So, I ended with low miles 97 SL2 for much less. It certainly was a wrong financial decision on the previous owner's part to spent $40,000 on a salvaged '91 R129 in 2004.

I hope the OP didn't pay much when he got it.

Good luck!

Appreciate the revisited AMG lesson, thank you... that info has been kicked around in all the forums for some years now.

I've read many posts by those who have better AMG knowledge than both of us, and it would seem that AMG's from those years are few, but they all have AMG certification documents. I would guess you must have those documents as well.

These days when an AMG car is refered too, most folks normally assume mods that include engine & suspension, not just an AMG body kit.

Perhaps a picture of the engine compartment and the AMG engine block number would be nice for all to see. also a picture of the instruments would be nice

Thanks again for the info...

PS: here is a recent thread in these forums on the same topic, ( SL AMG claim)

No problem. I will get a better engine and interior pic as soon as time permits for all. I never wanted to sell this car if I wasn't getting divorced I wouldn't I just can't see giving half away lol. The previous owner wanted to restore thecar to better than factory specs. His investment was questionable ha had more money than sense I suppose however on my end it was a brilliant buy he became ill and I picked it up for pennies on the dollar with full documentation. Do you feel 11k is too much with all the parts/paperwork/documentation?

Im sorry to say that even with the low miles on your car, it having a salvage title will greatly lower the value. IMO you will not come close to the number you mentioned in another post. A friend of mine has a 91 with a salvage title and has been trying to get $4500 for the last 6 months and no luck.

With that being said good luck on the sale!

Mercedes aren't for people who want to have one, it's for people who can have one.
