My old screen name went inactive, but I used to spend time out here under "funinahalf" when I still had my 300E (124). I came back out here because I'm selling my father-in-laws 1989 420SEL. It's been in the family since day one and it's got 172,601 Miles on it. It's white with all the chrome accessories you could put on this thing.
It runs fine. We replaced the fuel pumps and the air conditioning compressor and associated parts about 2 years ago, and the battery about 6 months ago, so it's got about $2500 in fairly new, reliable parts in it. The car has ZERO rust on it and has never been in a serious accident. The paint is in excellent shape, and the interior seats and dash are in perfect condition also (no cracks or splits).
It needs new tires, and the chrome on the wheels is flaking and peeling. The left rear window goes down, but not up using front or rear switches (maybe off track), and the right rear window is not working at all. The only body damage is about a 1-foot dent to the right rear fender next to the tail light, from bumping a lane control pole on a freeway on-ramp. That also cracked the right rear tail light plastics. The center consul wood veneer is lifting, and the center glove box lid is broken.
As soon as I figure it out, I'll get some pictures posted up here. For now, I threw everything up on Photobucket, but I've got to read the rules before I post that link... unless someone tells me otherwise.
I have no idea what it's worth besides looking at Autotrader... I would like to see at least $2500 come out of it either whole or in parts. I'm not really interested in parting it out since it runs and I don't have the time to deal with it, so make me an offer for the whole car. Someone here may be interested in parting it out...
I don't see anything saying it's a problem, so here's the Photobucket link to pictures of the car: http://s1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/specex/420SEL/
