ASR Issue

Hey Friends- I have a 1995 s420 that is in really nice condition. No problems & it runs very nice. Recently, the distributor cap & rotor were replaced, along with the battery. Upon completion, the ASR light stays on & the car stays in "Limp Home Mode". How do I reset the ASR light to get the car running 100%? The ASR dashboard switch does nothing..I could use someone's experienced input. Thanks

I'm not sure of the duration but remove the ground wire to the battery for a long while. Try 1 minute, 30 minutes, etc...

When I first got my 300TE the previous owner didn't know why the 4MATIC light was always on.
I left the battery disconnected for 45 minutes while I was polishing the car.
Reconnected it, lights gone out and hasn't come on since.

Note: If you don't know when the last time the filter and fluid has been changed in the transmission, do it now. Also replace sensors in dif' and or wheels. Wouldn't hurt to have the Electronic Accelerator Control checked out. Typically the wire harnesses go bad on them.

I had a 93 400E with ASR (has the same V8 4.2 liter engine. Ignition cap n rotor. Yours probably has coil packs). Fortunately, I didn't have any problems with it at 160k miles. Though rewired the 1st gear over ride to the rear window's lock out switch. (since it defaults to 2nd at stops). Also gives you an extra kickdown gear on the fly. * Not recommended over 50 mph *.

A minor upgrade thanks to 2Phast's W124 site.

Do a search "ASR limp mode".

Bimmerman4ever- replaced the brake light switch. Now the fuse for the ASR/ABS & rear brake light continues to blow! The Brake Light Switch was a fairly simple job. Didn't take long at all. But after putting in the new switch..the ASR light on the dash was still on. After driving the car for about 30 minutes, I noticed the ABS light came on. I pulled over to check the fuses & ithe ASR switch, ABS & Brake Light fuse was blown! I went back to check the brake light switch to make sure all was ok. After checking that..I put another new fuse in & it blew too. I'm Lost?

Check wires to sensors and brake lights. You'll have to get a schematic of the circuit(s). There is a short somewhere that is causing it to blow a fuse.
Also if it has an ASR switch on the center console, that may be faulty or shorting out.
Sometimes that, or the hazard light switch can cause a short.

Bimmerman4ever...I Thank You for all of you assistance with this problem. All is well. The problem with the brake light ASR/ABS fuse blowing (fuse #23) was the 3rd brake light. It was bad. I read one of the threads last night regarding the 3rd brake light being a cause of fuse #23 blowing. Checked that light first thing this morning and Walah...no more blowing of fuse #23. Now back to the original issue...the ASR light & Limp Home Mode. Next on my agenda is to change the transmission fluid & related filters/sensor. Thanks, I will keep you posted

You're welcome.
Also check what transmission you have per VIN decoder.
