Two steps forward, selling the Lorinser LO 9x16 et10, four steps back buying these RS098 7x16 et35 wheels. Two barrels are cracked, and all four of the lips need work, and the three badges that came with them are fully hazed. The fourth was missing. Not a big deal as I had an extra badge for my "spare tire" BBS RS, something I would never need for a spare.
These 7x16 et 35 wheels, definitely have 1" lips and a dome-shaped face, kind of like the RS017 et62 Porsche wheels that I just sold on eBay. So I have assumed that the barrels are 5.5" (which could be useful if I want to make my RS009 stock, 8x16 et11 instead of 8.5x16 et17). But the cool thing is realizing that the faces must be ~11mm deeper on the back than the faces that are used for RS008, RS009, RS011, and probably RS058 and RS078 wheels. So that would mean that you could fit 11mm more lip on them. That's an extra half inch. I believe that you could fit a 3" lip on these with the current barrels and have a 9x16 et10-11 wheel. The RS008 and RS009 wheel faces would take a 2.5" lip and 6.0" barrel to get to the 9x16 et11 size. So while these wheels are not exactly my greatest score, the parts will be nice to have in the toolbox for building BBS RS wheels for anyone who wants some. The price was right, and the tires are good soft winter General Altimax Winter tires. I know folks around here like the Altimax tires, so even if these are winter tires, I'm happy to own a set.
So they are now just stacked in the garage of wheel hoarder until I determine what will happen to these. They hold air, and of course if some w124 owner wants a cheap set to bolt-on, well here they are. They've seen the road. That's for sure. I anticipate that they need ~$550 in repairs, or even another $100 on top of that if you want to make these perfect... not even including paint. I figure: ~$150-$200 for two used barrels to replace the cracked ones. Then another $350-$400 in straightening and lip repair. $100 for a new set of badges. Since they've got tires and they are ready-to-bolt on, they were not, and are not a bad deal.
