If I hadn't been an idiot and gotten a dui in march, I would be packing my things for a road trip down there right now. God I wish there was some way I could get this car. I'm seriously like getting worked up over it.

I was just really hoping someone here would be in a better situation for picking up another car. That place is no place for this car, my God, it makes me want to cry just seeing it there.

Hahaha! Gentlemen, we are all in the same boat here.... wanting to save that nice classic from the crusher. Imagine my agony of being on the wrong side of the planet while seeing that shinny 6.9 in that yard.... looks really promising... I can't even see a trace of rust based from the photos!

Make the guy a lowball offer to see if he will go down say 1K then transport to its new home it looks to be complete. do you know what was wrong with it for it to wind up at the yard. just an idea good luck. too many have gone that way, someone must have taken good care of it to look so good. the problem is they want so much to fix that it becomes too much unless you can do it yourself.

6.9

If the SLS has failed, you'd best have more $3k (a bunch more) to spend on the car.

People will scrap a car in any condition because they suck. I'm sure it needs work whether it's suspension or engine/transmission or both. The way I look at it, any 1979 car is going to need work to be like new again, but it deserves the work and can be done relatively inexpensively depending on how you approach it. This looks like a case of the paint & body and interior not needing attention, leaving only possible mechanical work to have a perfect rare classic. Even if you can't save a lot of money and do the work yourself, I'll bet you can make back whatever you put into it, since these cars are worth good money.

Ah man! What a beautiful car!!!

It does not deserve to be at the junkyard!

I really hope someone does save this gorgeous car, no matter what work it needs, there are very few examples in this good condition, and it belongs in a warm loved garage.

look how all the lines match up perfectly, never had even minor accidents..

VERY rare car

Hey guys.

I went to check out the car, it's in rough shape. Definitely not worth 3000. I'll post pics and a more detailed report when I get home.

So I heard. Someone posted in another forum who also saw this 6.9 that the seller (yard) would not budge any less than $3k.... and did say too that based on the condition he saw, would even have 2nd thoughts of getting the car even at $1k.

That is disappointing, I'm curious to know what's so wrong with it. The body and interior condition alone seem worth $1000 for a 6.9. Well, hopefully the idiots will go down on the price after a few more years of not being able to sell it. That is, hopefully they'll try going down on price before just crushing it for their $300 in scrap metal like so many asinine junk yard geniuses do.

Definitely not trying to dash any dreams or hopes on this 6.9; just passing some real life 6.9 ownership and restoration experience based on my restoration of a AMG engined 76 euro 6.9 which just needed suspension work. You have to budget at least $5,000 right now to take care of the 3 leveling valves plus leaking hydraulic shocks which cause the suspension to bottom. Engine is strong if it had periodic oil changes; if cams are chewed out add another $2,400; car is a torque monster so it can blow the rear end ($2,500) by 100K miles as well as the transmission ($2,000) that is to get it on the road before you take care of any cosmetics, ancillaries, etc which are not really expensive since they are similar to regular 450SEL. There is definitely no such thing as a cheap 6.9 Mercedes. On the + side they are intoxicating monsters to drive but what a hard mistress it is on the pocket book. Within the last 6 months I've seen 2 (1 euro; 1 U.S. model) 6.9's that sold in the $7K range and did not have the issues this one has.
