Optical Fiber or non-fiber radio

As you know I have been looking for a CD/NAV/AM-FM upgrade for my 2004 non-facelift C230 coupe. I did find one but it is for a non-optical fiber sound system. How can I tell what mine is? I don't want to buy the wrong unit.

Thanks
Bob

If memory serves me correctly, 2004 uses the fiber ring for all of the audio components. That means for example that your CD changer (if you have one) has a fiber going in and a fiber going out, and no other audio connections. Same with the telephone kit if you have that. You can get the MB COMAND unit on ebay and add it to your car (I had this in my 2002 C230 Sport Coupe) but it is primitive by current NAV standards. (no touch screen, etc) Honestly the best NAV that I am finding is on my smartphone. Also consider whether you want to listen to CDs or instead listen to MP3s... I think that for many people, CDs have gone the way of 8-tracks and cassettes. I'm adding MP3 inputs to my cars. And then there is bluetooth to consider...
