1998 Mercedes Benz S320 Black / Grey Leather, 178k, New Tires, Runs good

(I copied and pasted this ad from another forum I posted the car on... I realize everyone on here knows what a W140 is )

1998 Mercedes S320 LWB – Black on Grey Leather Interior, these cars are known as the W140 bodystyle, and is said to be one of the best built generation Mercedes Benzes to this day. The 3.2L Inline 6 engine is highly sought after and gets great gas mileage compared to the V8’s and V12’s that are also available in the W140. This particular car is in pretty fair condition considering the mileage and age – it runs and drives good – feels very solid and quiet at speed. The transmission does not slip at all and shifts very smoothly, at WOT the car feels alive and the shifts are not hard or abrupt in any way. Steering feels tight, suspension feels solid and not blown – and the car brakes well with no warped rotors. The car also has a very recent matching set of 4 new Kumho tires (85%+ tread remaining). I would trust this car to take me across the country. The A/C and heat both work well. The car has the complete OEM toolkit intact and the OEM full size spare is also present. The sunroof opens and closes as it should, power memory seats function great on both the driver and passenger side. The doors even have soft-touch close, which is a pretty trick feature for a car of any age.

I strongly encourage any interested parties to come by and take a look at the car in person and drive the car.

While the car would be a great daily driver as-is, it is not in perfect / showroom condition, there are a number of things that should be addressed to get the car in perfect shape. The engine misfires at idle, but once you’re moving it goes away and the car runs good, it may just need spark plugs / tune up. The main problem is that it leaks oil – not an absurd amount – but if you leave it parked in one spot for a while; there will be drops underneath the car. If you just add a quart or two between every oil change you will be in good shape. The passenger-side front corner / parking light is cracked – a set of 2 corner lights can be sourced on eBay for less than $30 a pair. The passenger side mirror is cracked – and the power adjust does not work – you would have to adjust the mirror by hand. The power-folding does work though. The radio is not connected, I am told that it does work though. The center storage compartment opens, but the glovebox does not open. The body has a couple door dings, but is actually in great shape for what it is.

I probably made this car sound a lot worse than it really is; but to be honest, it’s a solid driving W140, and in my opinion – the 3.2 I6 is the best motor for the W140 when it comes to reliability, fuel economy, and ease of service. There is wealth of knowledge of these cars on the Mercedes Benz internet forums – with DIY instructions on how to do most any service on these cars, for someone who is mechanically inclined – you could easily be driving an awesome S-Class Mercedes for pennies on the dollar. This car costs about $70k when it was purchased new back in 1997.

Serious parties, do not hesitate to call David at 2019145033, or Adam at 2019833452 to discuss the car, or arrange a time to come check it out and drive it. Call anytime. Car is sold as-is, where-is.
