Beautiful 95 S500 COUPE For Sale Big Car Big Attention Getter

My grandfather is asking me to assist him in selling his mercedes after i told him about this site he thought posting it here would be a great idea. So here is the car hopefully one of you will enjoy it as your own.

It is a 1995 S500 SEC with 150xxx miles the engine and transmission and well everything is in fantastic condition. the front seats have some wear in the leather but the rear ones do not. He also has the original factory wheels that are of course also included in this sale. If you have any questions please ask me so i can answer them quickly. otherwise the car is waiting for you here in Imperial CA 92251 and the current asking price is $16000

Why the large price correction? 16,000 is way out, and forgive me unless you have full service records and a current documented, detailed PPI by a W140 expert confirming it needs nothing, $9,000 for a 95 with 150,000 miles is still likely too high for this market.

Welcome to MB ownership, gramps!

Hopefully he's not a complete moron like me, who bought a brand-new MB for the wife, put 20% down, paid $1,054 / mo for 4 years and now have a car that is worth roughly 50% of what I paid for it. Talk about a shitty use of one's funds. No one twisted my arm to buy it, though. On the other hand, this is the only MB I've ever purchased brand-new or financed, and I can now say that I have experienced it. Most of the other MBs I have purchased have been closer to the bottom of the depreciation curve, someone else having taken the bigger part of the hit.

I would honestly suggest you will be at a significant advantage if you get a detailed PPI done. Cost say $150...

If the car is really good, needing little, then you are in a very good position to not only ask for real money, but MUCH MORE likely to get it. And good 140 coupes are rare, so then this forum may well create a healthy demand for you.

Anyway, just a thought - hope it helps. GLWS!

Maintenance costs a factor

The 95 vintage, combined with known maintenance requirements on all these cars bring future maintenance costs to the forefront of a purchase price decision.

Depending upon several key (and very costly) maintenace items, it would be easy to drop another $9 grand into the car within the next 50,000 miles or so. (ie. engine wire harnesses, tranny, hvac, timing chain and other related items, just to name a few).

As a buyer, I would search for a car that has already had these items replaced, because all these type cars will need these fixes.

Without getting offers, maybe eBay is a way to find out what the market will bare...

Always liked these big coupes, this one looks very nice... GLWS

Maybe if Gramps took those stupid wheels off he could get the $16K he needs to save the family farm. No wait, that was a Walton's episode, I get confused easily...

I agree, and unless someone who's looking to purchase it is either stupid, or can do the maintenance himself, you're looking at a very limited audience to sell to. High-end luxury cars always plummet in value
