WTT - my gorgeous 87 BMW 325iS for SL

I have a beautiful (inside and out) 1987 325iS. The ‘S’ means it has the LSD, Recaro seats (freshly rebuilt and reupholstered), and 5 speed. Magnathrust exhaust and zero problems. Refined, not a car that has been the project of a gear head. The car is super clean, mechanically – all sorted out, it has Bilstein sports shocks (2 years old), is lowered, the M Body kit, Damani 17" Wheeels with Nancook low profile tires (17”)… in terrific shape. It is a Southern California car that I purchased a year ago last August from a BMW Boutique Service shop – and was owned by the owner of that shop. It just had the timing belt and water pump done about 6 kmiles ago.

I drove the car home across country, and had not a single issue… and it has lived in a garage with a cover on it – and taken out to drive on weekends in the summer, fall and spring… never seen rain in NH, or snow.
I am into the car for about 12k, and it is a collection quality example. I would like to trade it for an SL500 or 600 with some miles - but clean. I've always wanted one. I will tell you – we are talking an exceptional example of the famed E30… in the most desirable, reliable model. THE M Series were more money and faster, but cost a fortune to keep tuned and on the road. I get about 23-25MPG on the highway and my car flies..

Rob,
Beautiful car, but, and it's a big but, you are not likely to find an interested party to trade you. Even though you have considerable funds tied up in the car, it does not always increase the value of the car to same degree. I am a loooooong time BMW enthusiast and while I would pay a premium for your car with all the work you have done to it over others not as nice, I suspect you are, in reality, looking for a trade on an early 450SL or 380SL. Still a worthy endeavor in my opinion. Good luck either way.

You are right, but I am thinking trade +cash

So.. you are right.. what I really want is an SL500 (1993), and my thinking is that I would offer my car plus cash. I know I can get 9k for my car - as I have had two offers for that.

If anyone is interested, I am open to a creative plan...

This one is a collector.

Rob,

Have you dyno'd it yet? How many miles are on your 325? Has it ever had any paintwork/bodywork/etc? I am assuming no crashes, correct?

Best,
Ricky

You should have took 9k if those were real offers. Looks like there is a dash mat on there so it is safe to assume the dash is cracked. The open air filter is sucking in warm air and not making any more power. The plastic bumper 89-91 cars command more money than any metal bumper cars. For that kind of asking price you are competing with 24v swap e30s.

If you can get $9000 for it, take it and buy what you want. Why bother with the longshot of a trade?

Should have taken the $9k when offered. Clean car though, if it were the M it might be worth the money if unmodified with books & records ( for the record the M's are easily tuned and robust, not finicky and generally not a PIA to own or use as a DD, I've had plenty) but a clean, lowered thus modified 325is is rarely bringing that level of return.
