$185?! For something you may use once... Yikes! Now I remember why I just used a hydraulic jack under the control arm last time I dropped a suspension. Might look for a tool rental thread if you need one.

I bought a set of different kind of spring / coil compressor.. Cost me only $15 if I remember correctly. Worked just as well when I swapped my hydraulic shocks + SLS springs for normal ones

Still have the set chilling in my tool box in case I need to similar work.

Its a copy of the German Klann puller ($800+).
For anyone who has seen twisting springs fly / how dangerous that can be, cheap insurance at $185.

There is a bif diff between the front and back springs. Anything besides the klann/clones is risking your life. I always get a bit jumpy even when using the proper tool.

You definitely want to use either the Klass tool or one of the ones from eBay made for the MB springs. I used a universal spring compressor at first just to check... but it didn't fit anyway. Once I read more about the correct compressor to use I was glad that it didn't fit.

One forum member didnt listen to me and used the hook kind that goes in the spring on the w123. Threads let go and the rod was stuck in the ceiling.

All you have to do is count the coils and look at the stiffness charts. Fully compressed is like 3500lb.
